Latest Harry Potter Director: Michael Who? {Cinematical}

Nov 4th 2006 11:50AM I appreciated that Columbus stuck as closely as possible to the books, but I also recognized that subsequent installments were longer in print, and therefore, more had to be cut.
I would NOT want to see Cuaron back again! I was very upset with his choice to put the characters in Muggle clothes instead of the robes from #1 & 2, because there was no reason to do that, other than to make the actors look more marketably "hot" to teenagers. I also didn't understand the direction he went with in that film. 2 examples of choices I hated--first, Harry's temper tantrum threats to kill Sirius Black after he hears the story in Hogsmeade (that snowy scene that didn't exist in the book). It was too teen angst-y for me, and it's not how the book read. second, Hermione's comment about how her hair looks from the back when they used the time-turner. It was too teen ditzy, and not at all in character. Plus I hated how they changed her hair anyway (to go with the stylish modern clothes).
The 4th director was an improvement on Cuaron. GoF is my favorite of the books, and although I was sad to see some scenes cut, I understood that they had to be, and I felt like they kept the most important sequences.
I won't be too worried about WHO's directing the remaining films until I hear of any awful mistakes they're making (like Cuaron choosing to ditch the school robes), and I suppose it will be too late by then. The truth is, there's just no way the film could even come close to the magic of the books, no matter how gifted the director (and actors and designers and everyone else) is. The best thing about the movies is that they have convinced some people to read the books!

Denim for Immortality Jeans {Luxist}

Oct 4th 2006 8:39PM Good cause, but I wouldn't pay $220 for jeans no matter where the money was going! Save yourself some cash and buy $30, then donate $120 to charity--everyone's better off!
