Jun 22nd 2011 2:13PM another piece of advice the columnist forgot - give your child confidence building exercises. have her or him try new things, but don't do these things FOR the child - stand by and watch, act as a guide, but do NOT do these things for the child. this will only cause the child to get frustrated and mad. do not tease your child if you know she or he is sensitive. compliment your child, but not unnecessarily. compliment your child on genuine things about your child. join the pta, and have other parents bring their kids to your house so your child learns to interact socially with her or his peers. make the other members of the pta your social group. if you are an easily frustrated parent, quick tempered and impatient, you can ask that another parent baby sit your child or have your child over to their house for a sleep over with their child so you can get a break, regroup and collect your self. make sure you return the favor with the other parent. have little get togethers with other parents and their kids, go to soft ball games together, go on hiking trips, go to social events held in the local park as a group. revert to your tribal roots of socializing in this way in small groups. this will help your child break a bit out of her or his shyness. to this day, i wish this is what my parents had done. i might be more confident today. and i'm in my forties. believe me, this stuff sticks with you. for life.

May 31st 2011 2:04PM i think it's ok for the parents to keep the knowledge of the kid's sex between them selves and the few people they care to share it with. there is no thing wrong with the names they gave their kids, and they are NOT "raising their kids to be gay" as some one else suggested. whether one is "gay" is determined more by the chemicals produced with in one's body than "nurture". were this not the case, kids raised by heterosexual couples would them selves be heterosexual, and there would be no homosexual people. that's a ridiculous argument. one can not make a person turn against their natural inclinations of heterosexuality. nor can one "make" a homosexual person be come heterosexual. even if all people were forced to engage in heterosexual relations with other people, those with homosexual tendencies would still feel an attraction to those of their own gender. one can be married with kids and a house and still be homosexual. just be cause one inhibits and represses their homosexual feelings does not make one "heterosexual". it makes one repressive of their true nature. that is all. i see no thing wrong with this couples' attitudes and ideas. if more people put less emphasis on the idea of gender and more emphasis on the individual, it would be a far better world. i think that is what this couple is trying to say.

Apr 28th 2011 5:57PM the kitchen had a nice, airy look in the before picture. may be a very light yellow color would have made it look better, and may be one or two changes. but over all i liked it before. and islands take up space. i would rather have the space to move and walk around. or may be to put a small table and chairs. who needs a dark and depressing kitchen?

Mar 6th 2011 6:28PM the word "retard" means slowed or stunted growth. that is all it means. plants that don't get enough water and nutrients suffer "retarded" growth. flame "retardant" materials slow the spread of fire so you have more time to escape. a "retard", when used insultingly, is simply a recognition of your friend's "retarded", or stunted, maturity level.
another point - i had occasion to get to know a few people with various disabilities, some physical, some mental. they would call EACH OTHER "retarded". why? be cause they are PEOPLE. and ALL people, regardless of mental abilities, will call each other names. including "retarded". ANOTHER point - ALL people, including those with mental problems, are good at some thing. despite these peoples' disabilities, most of them could operate every brand new electronic device that came out. computers, i pods, fancy electronic, digital cameras, EVERY thing electronic. so they are not as stupid as many might think. they are simply slow in other areas. but people being people, they would even talk, gossip and slam other people with disabilities, and yes, call them RETARDED. this politically correct non sense has to stop. it's... well.... insert your favorite word here.

Feb 28th 2011 7:20PM addiction is NOT a disease. it is ADDICTION. disease is caused by germs. no one voluntarily injects germs in to their bodies and then develop a physiological need to inject more germs in to their bodies in ever increasing amounts. call it what it is - ADDICTION. NOT "disease".
second of all - while rare per haps, there are in deed people who quit their addictions with no out side help. while it may be better to have supportive people around you who have also been through addiction, there are some people, per haps more than many may realize, who have have in deed, again, quit drugs with NO help or support.
and third - charlie sheen definitely has problems. and it's a shame that the cast crew lost their jobs be cause of him. how ever - i'm pretty sure they're better off financially than many others. and certainly the actors will go on to appear in other programs and movies, too. may be even do some stage work. or per haps write their own plays or scripts for t.v. or the movies, or may be a broad way play. so i'm not exactly gonna cry over their lost jobs. they'll find work. and so will the camera people, the sound people, etc. there are always actors who need crew people to record them and make them presentable to an audience through make up, stage lighting, etc. they will always find work. any how, that's it.

Feb 25th 2011 3:00AM people should be required by law to get their heads examined before having kids. then those who are clearly unfit should have to be spayed or neutered. that would solve the problem. and ain't it funny how most animals of other species make MUCH parents than many "people". may be be cause they under stand the value of life better than we... they actually WANT to pass on their genes. seems lots of people who kill their kids or who abuse them terribly know less than so called "dumb animals".
