Chevrolet Corvette headed back to UK? {Autoblog}

Aug 21st 2010 12:01PM There's a certain charm to the garden-variety blissfully arrogant, ignorant and dismissive Brit. Yes, all American beer sucks, we are all racist Jesus freak gun owners and all of our roads are dead straight. You've got us pegged.

BMW Gran Coupe reportedly go for launch {Autoblog}

Aug 12th 2010 10:49PM That looks like, dare I say it, a combination of the new Buick Regal and the Hyundai Genesis. Not sure if that's good for Buick/Hyundai or bad for BMW. BMW: you're a German company. Revel in your Germanity. Bring back the timeless Teutonic three-box style of the E30, freshened up a bit. Mike lighter, smaller cars. Ditch all of the electronic sillyness and focus on good engineering.

Google Voice Actions for mobile announced: write messages, find music, and more {Engadget}

Aug 12th 2010 1:46PM Can't find it in the marketplace. Is it just Voice Search?

Lord of the 'Ring: Ferrari breaks the 7-minute Nürburgring barrier {Autoblog}

Apr 24th 2010 11:51PM I can't resist, I'm going to repeat comments already made here. The fact is that people are already touting this all over to net as somehow comparable to any other time. You might as well compare this time to something like the Radical's time. Oh wait, that's road legal in most of Europe.

To reiterate, here we have a $1.5MM car that (as C+D pointed out) is supremely pointless. It's not road legal. It's not legal in any race series. They're only making 29 of them. You can only "buy" them if you're a billionaire Ferrari nut who kisses Ferrari's ass and even then, you don't really get to keep them outright. So you're getting the worst of all possible worlds with this car: the compromises of being a track car based on a road car without being road legal. Oh and you can't race it either. As I said, pointless.

To all our billionaire board members: buy a 911 cup series car or a Corvette GT car (or three of each for the same total cost of one 599XX) and call it a day.

Zune HD hacked, OpenZDK now available to developers {Engadget}

Apr 17th 2010 5:14PM I'd like a few more apps, but I'm already very happy with my Zune HD. Yes, it has a great interface, great sound quality and great music archiving capabilities, but for huge music fans like me it takes a Zune Pass and AV dock to unlock it's true potential. The wifi Marketplace, SmartDJ/curated playlists/channels and tight integration with allmusic.com allow pretty much the perfect music browsing experience. Add in native hd avi out and it's a damned fine bit of hardware.

Microsoft's Bach says 'there are other places where Zune logically could go' {Engadget}

Jan 11th 2010 9:52PM I came here to say I absolutely love my Zune HD + ZunePass. Simply the best thing MS has ever done. Make a phone out of it and I would buy it in a heartbeat.

Video: Russian racing exposed {Autoblog}

Jan 9th 2010 9:45PM A bunch of fat douchebag gangsters wearing diamonds, cavorting with (admittedly hot) Siberian farm girls and driving classless tunermobiles like idiots. Blah.

SEMA 2009: 2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor 6.2 packs 411 HP {Autoblog}

Nov 3rd 2009 8:57AM I'm a suburban dad-of-two who admires the Volvo C30, wears 30X32 slim fit jeans and likes listening to Vampire Weekend, and I love this truck. As all red-blodded American men should.

$41K base is a lot for an F150, but actually a pretty damned good deal when you consider what you're getting. I imagine it would cost many thousands more to duplicate the specs of this truck as a one-off.

First Drive: 2010 Volkswagen Golf evolves the German hatchback {Autoblog}

Oct 15th 2009 12:23PM I like almost everything about the Golf, but you forgot to mention the biggest demerit for VW: their perceived lack of reliability. I can't speak from personal experience, but VW's always rank low on any third-party measure of reliability. They're also relatively expensive to fix and maintain. Anecdotally, everyone I know who's every owned a VW of Audi has had problems with it and has spent a lot of money to maintain it. These are serious problems, expecially for a small, practical commuter car like the Golf. In the US, long term quality trumps all.

I don't quite understand it: in Europe, VW is considered to be a rock-solid standard bearer of quality. Here in the US, they're down there with Jaguar and Land Rover in terms of long term reliability. Maybe we drive more here and wear cars out more quickly? Until they fix the problem, most people are going to stick with a Corolla/Civic/Fit/Xa/Cube/etc.

Hammond says Top Gear crew's scariest moment was infamous Southern U.S. episode [w/VIDEO] {Autoblog}

Oct 8th 2009 9:45AM I like Top Gear, but their general condescending attitude towards all things non-British to often crosses the line from good-natured banter to genuine nastiness. They often have a distinctly "colonial" attitude about Johnny Foreigner while hypocritically claiming to be uniquely cultured and worldly that can be extremely off-putting. No American show would get away with the same crap if it were broadcast in the UK.

Note james May is a possible exception to the above comments...
