Antipsychotics Have Dramatic Consequences in Kids, Study Shows {ParentDish}

Jun 22nd 2011 1:08PM Had the same type of problems with #1 son-- except, it was probably his primary med (Dexedrine) was causing psychosis. Risperdal caused an almost immediate weight gain-- over 20 pounds in 2 months on a then small middle schooler, so he was "weaned off", and started on something else (Welbutrin?... I forget, he went through several) which was not as effective as a "patch" for the psychosis. In his last year of high school, he went through a 10 month withdrawal/rehab program for all his meds. He stopped the stimulant (then Aderall) immediately, then was more slowly withdrawn form the other 3 meds he was taking, while being supported with 24h "therapy". He lost about 30 #s in his last 2 months in the program (with no meds), and another 20 #s after he was back home and exercising again.

Westboro Baptist Church to Picket 'False Idols' at Comic-Con {Asylum}

Jul 16th 2010 7:15PM The Bible is/was being made into a graphic novel.....
I'm not sure what happened to the project, but a few years ago at Comic Con, there was a Christian comic publisher with a big booth promoting a launch of what was to be a series. Their first issue was Samson... the artist was dressed as Samson (looked the part), and he had a "bodyguard" dressed as Delilah (modestly dressed version).

Should you 'friend' your doctor on Facebook? {WalletPop}

May 20th 2010 12:18PM Doctors-- and other professionals, non-profits, clubs, etc. can create a FB "Page" to "connect" with patients, clients, etc. It's free, and takes only a few minutes to set up. It's sort of like a mini-website... once you get 25 "likes" (formerly "fans"), you even can get a personalized URL for it. It will link to the creator's personal account, but only "public" information can be seen by those who are not "friends".

It can also be used as advertising-- pay-for-clicks ads at the right side of FB feeds and walls.

Should you join a credit union? Here's what you need to know {WalletPop}

Apr 30th 2010 10:05AM I think the only reason to keep a BANK account, is for business accounts (DBA/organization accounts). I have credit union accounts that I use for business purposes, but they are "personal" accounts, directly in my name, SSN, etc. I also have a personal account, and joint accounts with hubby.

However, both non-profit organizations with which I work have to use BANKS for their accounts-- believe me, if they could use a credit union and save fees, earn more interest, etc, they would.

Would you tip this hotel housekeeper? {WalletPop}

Oct 12th 2009 10:13AM "Guess where I work 60 hours per week..."

US military??? I was in the Navy, and 60+ hour weeks were not uncommon. It was rare to even get an "attaboy" for them....

Barbie Gets A Bulgari Makeover And Endorses Save The Children Charity {Luxist}

Jun 22nd 2009 9:31PM No, Barbie doesn't look like that out of the box, unless perhaps you get one of the "special edition" ones (which this may be).

If not a "special", this one looks like she's had "plastic" surgery, as well as having her hair and make-up re-done. Her arm was bent (to show off the ring, no doubt) and her hair "permed", probably by dipping them in boiling water, then making adjustments while they were still hot and pliable; cooling will "set" the new position/curls. Altered Barbies have their original make-up taken off with something like a Dremel with a light sanding disc, and then are repainted with acrylics (usually). They are no longer "toys" at that point, though, because the paint isn't as durable as the original plastic make-up.

15 Reasons to Quit Facebook {Switched}

Apr 16th 2009 6:23PM Is AOL sponsoring a "social networking" site or something? Or did Facebook turn down an "offer" from AOL/T-W?
Seems every "news" article they have re: Facebook is negative, as if AOL is trying to get rid of "the competition". It's certainly no worse than other popular, general sites of its kind, and is a lot easier to use than a lot of the ones AOL "recommended" as alternatives. Less "downtime", too.
How about some "fair and balanced" reporting, AOL??? Or at least, some disclosures re: connections/interests in social networking, and mark the articles as op-ed or ads, not "news".

Recession watch: Finally joining Costco {WalletPop}

May 30th 2008 9:21AM CostCo is my "grocery store"-- for a family of four adults. We have the "Executive Membership" with the CostCo AmEx-- the rebates more than pay for the membership fee, and the extra coupons can help, too (I don't use many of them, though-- just not interested in the products featured).

Also, at CostCo the gas is ~10c/gal cheaper than other local stations.

Big in Japan: How to cure a hangover {Gadling}

Nov 5th 2007 10:49AM ""I know the answer is simply not to drink, but if you've figured out a way not to, please share the secret with the rest of us!)""

The way not to imbibe when you party?? 1) When offered an alcoholic beverage... say, loudly, "ewwww! Rotten grape juice! (or whatever the base of the alcohol is)". Do that a few times, and people tend to leave you alone (laughing).
2) Party with good church-going Mormons... or religious Moslems, I suppose. They get plenty wild & crazy without ethanol.

Time to ban perfumes from high school? {BloggingStocks}

Sep 5th 2007 11:22AM "I WOULD MUCH RAHTER SMELL PERFUME THAN B.O. ... SOME PEOPLE THAT HAVE MEDICAL CONDITONS THAT MAKE THEM SMELL BAD AND WOULD LIKE TO COVER IT UP A LITTLE WITH PERFUME"

But then you have BO/medical condition + perfume smells. Like spraying air freshener around a over-flowing garbage can... it doesn't really "hide" the odor, and the combination of smells is worse than the "problem" odor.
