Mom Sues Preschool, Claiming it Promised Education, Delivered Shapes and Colors {ParentDish}

Mar 16th 2011 1:11PM OMFG!!!!!!! I send my children to preschool. We have a program here that is a Co-Op (where parents volunteer once a month) and I couldn't be happier. Here's a newsflash, I tought my children to read and to know their colors, shapes, and alphabet BEFORE they entered pre-school. My 3 year old who begins this fall already knows most of her colors, numbers from 1-10 and shapes. She even has some of her letters down. I did that, not some hoity toity spaz teacher who's probably only there for the paycheck. I sit with my children on a regular basis and actually spend time with them, going over things like shapes and colors with them. I feel that if you stress your child out over something like College before they can even tie their shoes, they will end up drugged out and homeless without even a high school diploma. I remember when I was about to enter highschool, I had a cousin who was also entering at the same time and she was going to a private school because my uncle could afford it but my grandfather could not (not that I wanted to go to one anyway). She brought her summer reading list home and out of 100 books, I had read 98 of them before I even entered 7th grade, not because I had to but because I wanted to and I was at the level that I could comprehend those books above my grade level because I had parents who took the time to educate me not depend on fancy preschools and private tutors. SPEND TIME WITH YOUR KIDS PEOPLE!!!!! Stop putting them off on others!!!

Scared of Santa: These Kids Aren't Very Merry {Holidash News}

Dec 26th 2010 8:13AM And this is why I have 1 picture of my oldest (now 12) when she was 2 months old with santa and then NOTHING until she was 5. Then my second child actually RAN to santa when we saw him @ the bank before braving the mall scene. And now my third is just like my first and will wave from a distance, a very FAR AWAY distance! However unlike these parents who stood in line for I'm sure quite a bit of time and decided to FORCE their kids to sit on the lap of true terror in their minds I refuse to do that to my kids! We go to the bank when they have santa visit and then if it goes ok I'll take them to the mall for the professional pic.

Build a Wiccan Altar? Not in My Shop Class, Teacher Says {ParentDish}

Sep 20th 2010 6:36PM You "Christians" as so many of you put it practice your damn religion everyday when you stand up and force the children in the classroom to stand up and recite a mindless pledge to a country that wouldn't know "Liberty and Justice for All" if Lady Liberty herself reached down and smacked you in the back of your head with her damn torch! I am a Proud Wiccan and I am raising 3 very equally Proud girls in this world to stand up for what they believe in and fight to protect ALL rights, not just the ones that the mainstream says are ok to keep! A Wiccan altar should be 3 feet by 3 feet by 3 feet. It looks like a table. The cross on the other hand is a religious symbol and SHOULD be allowed to be made in shop class to demonstrate how to do the wood working. It should not however be placed on display for all to see within the school unless you allow the child who created the Wiccan altar to also decorate his altar appropriately and then display it next to the cross. This world would be SO much better if we'd all practice what we claim to preach! An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will or to put it in terms those of you who are "christians" would understand Do unto others as you would have done unto you! BLESSED BE!

Drunken Baby Photos? Not So Funny {ParentDish}

Jul 16th 2010 7:42AM These pics look like several that I have on my own computer of my OWN 3 children. My mother in law is terrible when it comes to taking pictures and quite a few of hers have turned out like this! I think that they are funny and cute but wouldn't sell them out to some marketing company to used in this manner. I also have those previously mentioned pics where the child has a beer bottle in the picture however they were NEVER allowed to actually drink from it. My second child was a breastfed only baby for almost a year and at the time of a relative's graduation party when she was about 7 months old there were some relatives who were imbibing and she happened to look at a bottle sitting on the table near where we were sitting and her eyes lit up like the fourth of july and she reached for it like she was about to take a big swig and someone snapped a pic like that because it was FUNNY not because I was about to let her drink a beer. I doubt at 7 months of age having had only a breast to drink from prior to that point that she would have even known what to do with the bottle had she been allowed to get a hold of it anyway! These people need to lighten up and get their panties untwisted, I highly doubt those children were given the damn chocolates that their parents were paid for them to advertise anyway!

Mom Turns Library Scofflaw to Prevent Kids from Reading 'Gossip Girl' Series {ParentDish}

May 8th 2010 1:46PM As most have said already I am the PARENT and I will decide what my children can and cannot read! When I was in middle school I was ousted by the school librarian for reading V.C. Andrews. We were in the library after a school trip waiting for the lunch bell and we had to wait there since we had an "Open Air" school (no walls just cubicle spacers to divide the classes) and the teacher didn't want us going through the halls to our class disrupting the other students. I laid my book (borrowed from the public library BTW) on the table to go browse the school's books and the librarian saw it, asked who it belonged to and when I claimed it she proceeded to lay into me about my choice of reading. When I explained to her that I have been on a college level for reading most of my life she told me that if she caught me with another "adult" book that she would have me suspended. I politely told her that I was not her child and that if my mother had any issues with what I was reading then she would deal with me herself. I was sent to the office and my mother came up and told the principal that when they removed The Cat in The Hat from the middle school shelves then she would monitor my library check outs. I was in MIDDLE SCHOOL and they had The Cat in The Hat on the shelves for the kids to check out! I was the only person who had ever checked out Roots and read it all the way through without having to be forced to do so. The kids were passed without even knowing how to spell their names in Kindergarten and I was being lambasted to being a better reader than they were. So therefore since my oldest (11 going on 12) has gotten my love of reading I WILL NOT censor what she reads unless there is something deeply disturbing in it. I do not find "cussing and sexual content" disturbing especially since she is already taking sex ed in school. Reading is supposed to take you away from everyday life not be boring and dull!

That Bites: 'Twilight' Series Ranks High on List of Books Criticized by Parents, Educators {ParentDish}

Apr 15th 2010 10:49PM Sadly, this has yet again come to light. I am a younger parent who has read all those "bad for you" books. I also read many so called "good for you" books as well. I must tell you that in English class after having to muddle through Steinbeck's The Grapes Of Wrath where I had 2 different book marks, the one where we were SUPPOSED to be and the one where I actually was (10 chapters behind as it was sooooooooo boring) and then going onto Of Mice and Men or Romeo and Juliet I must say when a book catches the mind of a child, LET THEM READ THE DARN THING!!!!!!! Why force your opinion onto someone else's child when they have parents for that reason. I have read everything from Roots to No One Here Gets Out Alive (Jim Morrison's life story for those of you who don't know) and I find that when I am NOT forced to read something I like it better and when something is controversial then it's ALL the more better! I read the Harry Potter series when it got bad press but I must say I was only able to muddle through half a chapter of the first book of the Twilight Series as the vamps in this series are just not my cup of tea. I am proud of the fact that my daughter is an avid reader just like me and I will never tell her what she can or cannot read within reason. Keep your opinions to yourself and I will raise my child just fine on my own. Stepping off my soap box now and going back to reading my other vampire novels without the sparkly ones in them!

Swatch Heartfelt Watch For Mother's Day Is Easy Gift {Luxist}

Apr 1st 2010 1:04PM Who the hell pays that much for a watch in the first place, with or without a stupid bag?? I'm a mother and I would hang my kids if they spent that much on me for an ugly looking watch like that!

C'mon, Tell the Truth - You Lie to Your Kids, Right? {ParentDish}

Mar 9th 2010 8:41AM Actually I REALLY Do have Santa's cell phone number on speed dial. A family friend makes extra money during the holidays and we used him for a girl scout gathering and I had to get his number to make arrangements and I just put it into my phone under "Santa" and now when my kids act up I can actually put them in their place with a quick flash of the phone!

AC/DC Fan Goes Into Labor at Melbourne Stadium Show {Spinner}

Feb 18th 2010 6:07PM As for the comment about labors not being long and what not, all three of my labors were at least 13 hours and that's not including the time to get into the hospital and let the inducing meds kick in. If I had been pregnant & had the tickets to the show I am going to in April and was told I was too close to labor then I would have stuck it out as well. I don't think it's selfish or child abuse since I am a person unto myself and I need "me" time as well. Happy parents make for happy kids!
