May 19th 2011 3:46PM Anyone that DOESN'T think this is a disease has there head up their butt. I have lost friends and family to drugs, and to alcohol and someone very close to me to suicide, because after several attempts at rehab, she felt it was the only way to stop the addiction. The tendancy for addiction also runs in families. I know that in my family it is a Hell of alot easier to count the sober people than it is to count the ones that are hooked on something.

Nov 18th 2010 11:33AM My family is from Holland. I am 3rd generation American. We stay in contact and even visit sometimes with the family in Holland. They like nice things and are not afraid of work, but they don't work themselves to death. The government there provides many things that the U.S. Government does not, such as mandatory vacations for example. I know that if they start a family, they are willing to self sacrifice to raise the children, instead of sticking them into day care or hiring a nanny. It's not always the woman that stays home or goes "part time." Some of my male cousins have assumed the role of "part time" and are taking care of the house and the the children. They actually take the time to enjoy their lives.

Sep 8th 2010 5:44AM I have been sober now for 12 years. One thing that I realized was that my family was one of the biggest reasons I was drinking. I also came to realize that I needed to start caring about myself. I feel no need to apologize for being an alcoholic. It's like asking a person with diabetes to apologize for being a diabetic. In the end, my family respected me way more for standing up to them and for not being ashamed of my addiction.

People that have blind faith and blindly follow an organized religion ultimately will be the doom of the human race. In my life I have already died twice and have been brought back. There was no white light, and no tunnel, and Elvis wasn't waiting on "the other side". If the Human race is to survive, it needs to grow out of its infancy and begin to open its collective mind and begin to explore the truth of the universe. Although religion has some valid points, it needs to move beyond the dark ages and begin to explore new avenues of thought. Like I said, I do believe in a higher power. The only thing that is sure, is that there are things that I, nor any aother mortal man, has the answers for.

Aug 11th 2010 3:51PM I'm close to 50 years old. I just had a complete physical including a nuclear stress test. According to the charts of the proper weight for my height, I am 85 pounds overweight. It hasn't slowed me down in any way and the doctor says I'm perfectly healthy and all of my numbers, except for my weight, are perfect. So, until it actually becomes a health issue, I'm gonna keep on enjoying my bacon, my ice cream, and my pizza. I'm living large and enjoying life. You can call me anything you want. I don't have time or care about other people's opinions.
