Obama announces $50b plan to build the "best infrastructure in the world" {Autoblog Green}

Sep 7th 2010 8:22PM Well the TelePrompTer should have made the "stimulus" all about infrastructure, instead only a fraction of it went to infrastructure projects. He's missed his chance to really improve America's infrastructure problem, and 50 bill is a drop in the bucket compared to what is needed.

(the iPad spells TelePrompTer funny, doesn't it? Looks like some kind of code, anyone know what TPT could stand for?)

Sep 7th 2010 6:04PM also I believe there already is a $7500 tax rebate for BEVs like the Chevy Volt (I think traditional hybrids might have one as well, not really sure)

Sep 7th 2010 6:03PM well, with regard to construction jobs and whether that helps the economy, it a) helps low income workers find work (who have a higher unemployment rate to begin with) and b) there is an economic multiplier in spending money on infrastructure, eg, these people having jobs means they spend money, which goes into small businesses and large businesses, who hire more people, etc. Usually there is more economic impact from infrastructure spending than there is in giving tax breaks that benefit the top 1% the most.

AT&T likes Google & Verizon's wired-only net neutrality stance, Time Warner Cable doesn't {Engadget}

Aug 17th 2010 11:05AM @sonnybobiche "Market penetration doesn't stop people from switching from Company A to a better or cheaper product made by Company B."

It does when you're talking about infrastructure, ie, power, roads, water, telephone and cable. It would be impossible for me, if I wanted, to make my own wired telephone service. Having to wire up a whole town would take months and would cost a fortune, with very low profits and high upkeep costs like any other infrastructure. Infrastructure is fundamentally different from other products and services and that's why the government takes an interest in regulating it or outright owning it (like roads, power utilities, or water lines).

I do believe in private ownership of phone and cable companies but I also believe in regulation in order to prevent monopolies. For instance, if it weren't for government regulations, 3rd party phone providers couldn't offer services over At&t or Verizon lines, since Verizon and At&t own the lines and technically could do what they want with it. But the government mandates that 3rd parties can sell services over those lines, thus ensuring competition in the marketplace.

Aug 16th 2010 1:03PM @MacWins10 The Evo got the same score as the iPhone 4. So technically, you should say "still not a phone that bests the Evo/iPhone".
