Nov 7th 2009 6:14PM The pictures of Rihanna caused a ground swell of concern for her and many personalities who I admire (particularly Oprah) were very inflexible in their condemnation of Chris Brown stating that they are concerned about young women thinking that such treatment is OK. As the mother of two children, one male one female, I'm just a concerned about Chris Brown. This is such a teachable moment that seems to have been missed in the bashing of Chris Brown. First, Chris was wrong and should face up to his demons. Second, the police report says that Rihanna hit Chris 3 or 4 times before he got angry enough to hit her. Third, equality refers to opportunity not phyciality - a woman is not as strong as a man and should know better than throw a punch and not expect to receive a punch. Fourth, Rihanna has been very vocal in interviews about her temper. Chris should not get a pass for what he did but neither should he be destroyed. As the mother of a son, I want him to be treated the same way I would want my son treated.
