Nov 4th 2010 3:54PM Unfortunately, the best hotel bar in the world closed a few years ago. It was the Compass Rose Room in the St. Francis Hotel in San Francisco. High tea in the afternoon, jazz at night, expensive artwork throughout and if you were lucky you might get a table looking out on Union Square. My wife and I enjoyed several hours with that view on our honeymoon during the Democratic national convention in 1984 and returned several times later.

Oct 16th 2009 4:42PM Another way to get free drinks, thought not one I recommend, is to have hot water spilled into your lap by the flight attendant. That actually happened to me and I had free wine for the trip.
