Ice Jackets {Luxist}
Sep 18th 2006 10:57AM In rereading Trey Evans’ comment about the Ice Jacket this morning I wondered if there had been some confusion created concerning parts and what they are called. If the tray piece is confused with the base piece, it is easy to understand why there would be/could be a legitimate objection to the functionality and aesthetic quality of the finished assembly.
In referring to the ‘How To’ section of the web site, please note that the complete kit comes with five main parts; sleeve, base, tray, lifter, and plug. The sleeve attaches to the base. The clips attached to the sleeve create a seal between these two parts. The end user fills the Ice Jacket through an inlet in the base and then uses the plug to seal the entire assembly. The amalgamation is then placed in the freezer where it would sit overnight. Once the freezing process is executed the assembly is removed and allowed to stand briefly. Releasing the clips allows the sleeve portion to pop upward (the 2 degrees of draft in the part cause this to happen). The sleeve is set aside and the frozen assembly is placed on the tray while in use. The tray catches the nominal runoff and elevates the frozen bottle in the creation of a centerpiece or objet d’art etc. Subsequent to use, the sleeve can be returned into position and the Ice Jacket replaced within the freezer where it will await future use.
In terms of branding the Ice Jacket, the sleeve and tray and base, and especially the base and tray, provide a fantastic opportunity for the Ice Jacket label or an importer’s label/brand to be incorporated into the assembly. Because of the relative ease of manufacturing the Ice Jacket, small volume production runs allowing for the creation of holiday and event-specific Ice Jackets is readily available. From silk screening to hot stamping and debossing/embossing, the materials used, and the design of the Ice Jacket itself, should lend to what we hope will be an incredible and interactive product evolution.

Ice Jackets {Luxist}
Sep 13th 2006 1:38PM Concerning the Ice Jacket, the array of bottles that can be accommodated is outstanding. Due to the 'lifter' piece, short bottles like Absolut and Tanqueray can be featured while still accommodating taller bottles. The images posted on the web site depict 1 ltr. sizes. One of the variations available offers the top 'sleeve' piece with a pass-through nipple. This feature allows bottles with very long necks like Grey Goose, Vodka 14, Siku etc., to be conveniently accommodated.
The Ice Jacket’s design has been subject to quite a bit of consideration. Ultimately it was determined that by incorporating the ‘base’ piece as part of the assembly, the end user will enjoy the benefit of having a convenient place to grip the presentation piece. Unlike a milk carton which is subject to many restrictions in terms of placement within the freezer, by having the ‘sleeve’ attach to the ‘base’ in creating a water-tight seal, you can place as many Ice Jackets as you like within the freezer and in any position. Because the vodka, gin, aquavit, etc. has been chilled to well below freezing, once the assembly is removed from the freezer and the ‘sleeve’ portion has been set aside, the ice sculpture melts into the ‘tray’ at a very slow rate. In terms of functionality and presentation, it would seem hard to beat.
The 750 ml sized Ice Jacket will be priced at $34.95 and should be available through your favorite mail-order catalogues and on line by January 1, 2007. For more on this super fun gadget, or to let me know how to reach a decision maker at your favorite brand, please make sure to go to the web site.
44°North Vodka {Luxist}
Sep 10th 2006 1:23PM I have had several conversationsd with Geoff Ross at 42 Below. He is a nice guy who had an interest in my product called the Ice Jacket. It is designed to encase a manufacturer's bottle in ice for presentation and service (www.icejacket.com). I was not far along enough to make the deal happen but now am, although the opportunity with 42 Below has passed. Does anyone know who to reach at 44 North?
