Are You a 99er? Unemployment Benefits Are Over, What to Do? {AOL Jobs}
Jul 8th 2010 3:31PM I agree with most of what you say, however, I'm white and 58 with an excellent work history with experience and I'm still out of work. I've been told I'm overqualified plus they don't want to pay a proper salary nor offered me anything. They want the younger people to mold and pay very little salary.
Are You a 99er? Unemployment Benefits Are Over, What to Do? {AOL Jobs}
Jul 8th 2010 2:46PM My UI was cut abruptly as well, and I'm not a lazy person. Like many people out of work, I am frantically looking for work. I'm now a 58 yr. old woman with a good work history and experience. It seems employers are not looking for the experienced, they would actually have to pay them their work's worth, which they're not willing to do. They want the younger people they can mold and pay them next to nothing. I have expenses to make, I don't get to live at home for free while I work which is probably what this writer and cartoonist does and why she wasn't worried about survival or putting herself out there in the working market so much.
You can't live on UI money so why would anyone in their right mind want to live off that money. I couldn't survive with UI when I was receiving it. Bills are always paid late with another one right behind it and closing in on you each month your still without work. Now I'm about to have all my utilities and communications shut off with no end in sight and making it more difficult to find work. Not to mention, I'm now without a car to get around. I had an old used car, since I lost my new car & my credit due to job loss. I ran the used car into the ground trying to find work, I couldn't afford to repair the car when needed and it finally died and couldn't be repaired. What am I to do now? This is what employers & UI does for you. We are running out of food and food stamps won't help because the status on my unemployment claims sits there pending until Congress makes their move. I'm told to continue putting in my claims, meanwhile everything is falling apart in my world and still no job. So what are they thinking by cutting off the UI. It costs so much more to put people in the welfare system than to continue the UI. I for one am not going on welfare. This country is not keeping me down in the gutter by any means. It defeats the whole purpose. My husband is on Social Security and not by choice either. He's also on a few medications due to cronic conditions. He didn't want to file right away at 62, because he would receive less money about $400 less. We can only pay our rent, car insurance and about $40.00 in gas money with nothing left. When the gas runs out, we can't get around. Should I get any more interviews, I don't know how I would get there. I don't have family members to help out. I have 3 eggs left and a small amt of marg. no more milk or juice. No produce left just 1 apple and 1/2 a bag of frozen green beans & 6 potatoes. No bread left, out of sugar and other basic necessities. Within a week I will have no food left at all & no ingredients to make a meal with what might be left. I do have a turkey in the freezer but can't cook it because I don't have enough propane left to cook. When the electric is shut off anything left in the fridge will go bad, not that there's much left but condiments anyway. Toilet paper has now become a big issue, I have 1/2 a roll left. Where am I going to get toilet paper with just .50 to my name.
We have always held our own up till now & it's a shame our country can do this to our own people. All I want is a job, one that I can feel good about myself for. I don't like any entity taking control over my life. People aren't lazy except for the tiny percentage of those that live off others. There just aren't enough jobs for the amount of people looking. This is the result of outsourcing. I knew this would happen eventually.
Now everything comes from other countries and mostly China. Seems to me, what does our country owe China as to why everything is outsourced there? What is our government not telling us? Now everything coming in from China contains lead & other life threatening materials to be exposed to our people. People having major accidents from faulty vehicles resulting in some deaths. Is this how our country is going to be taken over? Middle East people coming into our country and marrying women born in the US, conspiring to terrorize our country, by spying and killing. They hate us but love our money. They run almost all our gas stations and convenience stores. To me, and here's the thing, it's their sneaky way of taking over our country. Their just waiting for an over-flux of ownership in our country to do so and their doing it legally. Our government is not astute to this? I don't know, not to be paranoid but it's just my intuition, but I'm usually right, not always, but most of the time.
Mexicans and other illegal immigrants are allowed in this country to work and receiving benefits of all sorts, that I can't even qualify for, a native living in my own country legally. I wouldn't even qualify to start a small business because my credit is shot due to the employer game. Let's not mention all the banks & large corporations bailed out. Of course there's no money and a huge deficit going on, and guess who's paying for it. Us, the people out of work and they can't even continue our unemployment till we find work or at least till it runs out. I have worked all my life and paid my taxes and then some and have nothing to show for it. The banks and CEO's sure do!! Perhaps I should sent my measly basic bills to them or my Congressmen, the government. Or should I send them to China or Mexico. Where pray-tell should I send them, I'm so undecided. Assessing all this, it circles right around to one group, the Government!! Yes, Let's. Let's send our bills to the government to pay because I can't and I didn't squander my money. Hell, I haven't even shopped for new clothes in 7 yrs. and even then it was a cheap top here and a cheap pair of slacks there for work. Oh, 2 yrs ago I bought couple packages of panties, you know, the kind the elastic pulls out during the first washing, probably from China. Now, I need a new pkg or two desperately and can't afford a pkg. How sad it is that I can't even buy underwear.
Yes, I'm even without health care or dental care, have been for over 7yrs now. I have two back teeth that need to be taken out and other work as well and can't. I had a bad toothache last week, thank goodness my son had a couple of antibiotics for me, but eventually it will take it's toll and no dentist that I know of will take on anyone without money. Can you imagine living with unbearable tooth pain? It can kill you. I never understood why it's not under every health package because it is part of your health not a luxury. No employer wants to hire anyone with missing teeth in their mouth and the strange thing is, those same employer's won't even offer dental much less medical.
So, if anyone out there has a decent job for me, one I can get to or at home (preferably) let me know. (I used to be an office manager and a store manager for a major furniture company for 10 yrs. till they eventually went out of business). basketsofjoy2u@yahoo.com that is until cable shuts me off.
Connor Doran Flies High in Surprising 'America's Got Talent' Audition' (VIDEO) {AOL TV}
Jun 23rd 2010 1:48PM I found that performance to be very moving to me. He was actually dancing with this kite & to watch a guy do this is even more astonishing. I sometimes forget that men can be sensitive and loving. I noticed it simply brought the audience to a calming state. It was beautiful to watch.
Those that are being cruel about his performance just because it wasn't about rocking the world with crazy lights, wild outfits and all the electronic equipment, and over the top singing, which is fine and great, but let me see you dance with a kite and indoors no less. That guy will blow you away, you won't be able to get it off the ground. You people are nothing but a bunch of sorry ass low life's that probably don't know how to do much of anything. You sound like very insensitive, arrogant, ignorant, uncaring people. I wouldn't want to hang with anyone like you. He has a unique talent which is why he belongs there. He may not win American's Got Talent, but then again, you never know.
You go Connor, keep dancing with kites, it's awesome!!
Mother Arrested for Leaving Daughter, 12, Home Alone for a Week {ParentDish}
Jun 15th 2010 2:41PM Well said!! The friend looking after her from time to time should have stepped up & took the girl to her place. They could have cared for the pets easily. Kids, I don't care how old they are, don't always think at the right times that the pets need to go out to relieve themselves and before you know it they have an accident on the floor. That's my guess, unless these people lived like slobs. Would it have burdened her? Having said that, it's still the mother's responsibility to find proper accommodations for her daughter or like you said take her to her wedding. That right there is sad. It sounds like she eloped without a regular wedding and went on to celebrate her honeymoon. And what about her fiance`, shouldn't he even care since he will be part of the family and maybe suggest something? I mean leaving her for a few hrs. should be alright, after all she is 12 and that is contingent upon her maturity level.
I remember when I was 12, I was a mature 12. I could cook food and knew how to clean, although I didn't like the dark or to be left alone at night. That was eerie to me. I even babysat for people at 12 so they could have an evening out. By today's standards I wouldn't allow my daughter (if I had one at that age, I have grown boys) to babysit. It is a huge responsibility to be in charge of someone else's children much less herself. I was OK then, not too many people sweat the small stuff like they do today. Now, people are falsely accused of stuff and there are people that you just can't trust, so we have to be very careful and that includes leaving a 12 yr old home alone for days.
I would not leave a 12 yr. old home alone for 1 day much less a few, after all they are 12 and they also have friends. Need I say more? That's not to say a person wouldn't trust their daughter or son but there has to be limits of trust no matter what. Again, they are 12 and we are hopefully, the responsible parent. She made a bad mistake and not thinking clearly and maybe that's what she did when she was 12 and everything worked out well, I don't know. Should she get her daughter back? Well, that depends on her history as a parent. Has she done this before, is she abusive or did she just make a dumb move. Think about it, all parents do dumb things from time to time, they make decisions against their better judgement with their kids from time to time. We've all done it. Kids can be quite manipulative when they want to be and there are times we cave in, it's part of life. But are all these kids taken away from the parents due to a judgement call, no they are not. All I'm saying they need to investigate this incident very carefully before they rip the daughter away. That would be devastating to the girl and her mom if this was just a loving mom who made a stupid decision.
T-Shirt Says to "Eat Less" {That's Fit}
Jun 5th 2010 10:39PM It's getting ridiculous that everything and anything written or said becomes offensive, racial, inappropriate, or whatever. "Eat Less"? You gotta be kidding me, how's that offensive in any way. It's nothing more than a message to eat less. A majority of America is overweight and that includes me, that's a fact. An idiot would know what or who it relates to. Certainly not bulimic's. Why would anyone tell skinny people to eat less. The skinny people already know by logic that the message does not relate to them. There was no reason or need to pull the shirts. There are companies that sell worse than that for sure. That shirt was nothing to fret about. If overweight people ate less they would become more healthy, so what's wrong with the message on the shirt, absolutely nothing. You crazy people need to get over it and get on with other matters like making a difference in the world and do something positively constructive for the good. Stop worrying and complaining about nonsensical matters. Can you handle it are you not smart enough?
Baby Josie Duggar Finally Goes Home From the Hospital {ParentDish}
Jun 4th 2010 2:14PM Are you really that ignorant a person, or do you know nothing about these people? The Duggars do not live off the system. They are really a true family and all the children are family oriented and happy. They own commercial property and have a lucrative business and they teach their children along with hands on. They live debt free, and care about the environment, they shop thrift stores, they volunteer all over their community and teach the children to care about others besides themselves. From the way you speak you sound like you don't have any morals or care about family unity at all, how sad. I myself have a good family and care about each other and I have 3 grown boys, but I have to say, even this large family blow us out of the water. How many families do you know are that close. The kids grow up, move out, some get married, which is all well and good but how close are they with each other and their parents. Sure they see each other here and there & do things together from time to time and have good times. Some families actually can't stand each other, thank goodness not in my family.
So what if they have a large family, they're doing it right. I don't agree with the girls wearing only dresses or the family not being able to dance. I guess that's part of their religion, (I never understood that, I'm a rebel like that) I believe that if someone believes in a certain faith, it shouldn't matter what you wear and dancing is only fun, it doesn't lead to anything else if you teach your children good moral conduct, there's nothing wrong with dancing at all. But if they are all fine with it, who cares. Actually one of the daughters who lives on her own now wears pants and the family respects her decision because they love her unconditionally. They know she's not going to go off half-baked.
Having said all that, some large families don't get it quite right and have crazy issues and that's what makes people like you, or others, think the wrong thing about large families. They are not all like that. Just be kind to people and about people, and no I'm not a religious person even though I went to Catholic school for 9yrs. I always had problems believing certain things and hated sitting next to judgemental and hypocritical people. So I simply removed myself from the situation and keep myself open minded. It's just annoying when people judge others without actually knowing all the facts first.
The Daily Fix: Ward Off Mosquitoes {DIY Life}
Jun 3rd 2010 11:31PM Ok, I don't understand the bug light situation. I thought They're supposed to keep the bugs away from the lights and they are yellow bug lights. No way they are all over the lights. I came home one night and walked into a wall of nats and other bugs by my entrance. The yellow bug light was on the side by the door. They do not keep the bugs away. The citronella candles and the torches attract the bugs right to it. the next morning I'm sweeping hundred of thousands of nats and other flying insects off my outdoor table and cushions and ground. Their everywhere and I live smack in the middle of New York State.
Landlord to Get Schooled on Bias -- and Pay $1,000 {Rented Spaces}
May 30th 2010 6:43PM Ok, here's the thing, first of all I myself do not discriminate against people, with the exception of what people do distastefully and that's not discrimination anyway. Having said that, if I were a landlord I would be very careful who I rent to based on their rental history. I would have invested so much of my money and time to make the place look nice and would not want anyone destroying my investment. I, as a respectful clean renter experienced past neighbors trash a house or apartment. The landlord's had to renovate all over again in order to rent to someone else. I watched it happen about 4 or 5 times in a place near me. That same place had to be redone over and over again and things that needed to be done in my place had to wait because of it. Painting and minor repairs is one thing, but it's not fair or right to trash a place or be very dirty people. I wouldn't want dirty people living in any of my places if I had any that is. I'm not saying that landlords aren't discriminating against races, but some just want you to know what type of neighborhood your looking to rent in, and by saying a nice Irish, Italian, Black, Chinese, Latin, whatever neighborhood lets me know that it could possibly be in a nice neighborhood or in a slummy section where they shoot people on every other corner. I would want to know what area I'm headed in. Not to mention it could be a cultural area. There are people that want to live near their own culture and there's nothing wrong with that. That's why there's Chinatown and Little Italy and places like that. That's not discrimination but there is a fine line. Unless this particular landlord was a bigot and didn't like certain races then there could be an issue. Apparently some people out there whomever they are or what race they might be love to play the race card just to start trouble, I've seen people do that. It's because I'm whatever. Many of us know the truth about that one. Unless it's really legitimate, and most of the time it isn't, some of these people whomever or whatever they are that play that race card are the most discriminative, I've come to learn. I wouldn't care who wanted to rent my places just as long as they are clean and respectful people. I am discriminative against dirty and unruly people and proud of it. If I were a landlord I would thoroughly check out anyone wanting to rent from me (that includes doing some leg work, finding out how & where they lived in their last place. Some of them lie about their situation as to why they need to move. Although, sometimes it can also be the landlord's fault causing a problem. I've met some pretty awful landlords in the past that just don't care about their places, therefore some potential tenants don't want to talk bad about their past landlord for fear they will be judged and not get the place. So you have bad on both sides of the fence. After renting out a place I would inspect the place every three months at least to make sure my investment is being protected, and security has nothing to do with it. Just because there's security on a place doesn't give the tenant cart blanche to trash the place. Security is another issue, it doesn't always protect the tenant or the landlord. Many tenants will simply use their security as their last month's rent whether the landlord likes it or not and in many cases you can't blame them some landlords are very crooked and try every reason to keep the security. That's their plan. It happened to me once and I had to take the landlord to court to get my security back and we left the place in better and cleaner condition than we got it. It was in move in condition paint and all. We never left a messy dirty place. This particular landlord never put the security in escrow, nor did it earn interest at least not for us. They spent the money and didn't have it to give back. Since then, we, like many other people always use our security (even thought that's not what it's supposed to be used for, it's only for the landlords protection but the tenant doesn't have any protection, and that's wrong). as last months rent and never have a problem. In conclusion people need to stop discriminating but always use caution, I wouldn't want a bad criminal or sexual offender in my place either, I don't care what anybody says or thinks on that matter. Also, people need to stop playing the race card needlessly. Some, just use it as a crutch just to sue people to get money. We all know that happens. Now, I believe I summed everything up in truth.
That's No Stranger, It's Willie Nelson With Short Hair {PopEater}
May 27th 2010 1:20PM I don't care for his hair now. red? it's like he took away part of his signature. To me,that braid was one of his signatures along with his priceless guitar. If he did it for a cause then OK, he may have donated it for a great cause. What was he thinking with the red? However, Willie can do whatever he wants, we love him no matter what. People of all ages love Willie, what a following. Willie is a treasure like the bald eagle, an all American pie, hot dogs at a ball game, a wise old owl. Willie is the fabric of our lives and of all American music.
