Feb 12th 2010 11:00PM @paul34 except a significant shift in content delivery would have to occur as well. Installing a gigabit pipe in your home doesn't get you a gigabit download link to a single server. there aren't many CDNs that can even push content to a single person with zero traffic that quick...

Feb 12th 2010 9:32PM @kyle shappley I live in Macclenny lil west of Jax, We have fiber to the home thru our phone company NEFCOM. anyway.. at&t's traditional dsl caps at 6mbit.. they're installing uverse in our area, which is Fiber.. so check your address on the AT&T uverse website. you can get up to 24mbit.. If you're sick of at&t period, and hate comcast.. you can get speakeasy in Jacksonville.. seattle based company, speakeasy.com.

Feb 12th 2010 9:28PM @DrBuzzKrill if google acts as an ILEC, and provides bandwidth to a CLEC, a la Covad to Speakeasy (where Speakeasy actually bills you, but the last mile and some equipment is actually provided by Covad), they may be able to get around some regulations.. Or they can start their own independent ISP group outside the google brand, and power it via google's fiber.. that latter one may be tricky. but who am I to say legal things.
