From an artistic standpoint, while the pedestal is in fact symmetrical, the table looks balanced or off-kilter depending on how it's turned toward you.

This makes a cute philosophical "statement", to be sure, but good design looks good from any angle.

This klunky postmodernist heap would go straight to the dumpster, unless some college kids needed a table.
