Thompson Manor, Estate of the Day {Luxist}
Dec 15th 2009 10:59AM Couldn't agree more. The placement of the garages seriously compromises the architectual integrity of this home. It screams McMansion more than manor!
The Estate at Turks and Caicos, Estate of the Day {Luxist}
Nov 30th 2009 6:55PM I was initially intrigued by the neoclassic facade, but oh dear ---- Tacky, tacky, tacky!
Cazenovia Lake Estate, Estate of the Day {Luxist}
Oct 2nd 2009 3:39PM Great house with terrific detail, but the interior decor is just too precious. Hire an interior decorator so that it doesn't look like a period dollhouse and, yes, lose the granite in the kitchen.
Roslyn, New York, Estate of the Day {Luxist}
Aug 16th 2009 1:33PM Too bad central a/c wasn't integrated into the remodel. The window units ruin an otherwise lovely facade.
Antonio Davis In Roswell, Estate of the Day {Luxist}
Aug 16th 2009 1:24PM Yipes! How may stuffed animals had to suffer and die to satisfy 'interior decorator' Kendra's cruel fetish for animal prints?
Newport's Cliff Walk Controversy {Luxist}
Aug 12th 2009 2:39PM I've been to Cliff Walk on dozens of occasions and don't quite get the controversy. As I recall, over the years, the Walk has been stabilized by no less than the Army Corps of Engineers! On one side you have the beauty of nature, on the other the beauty of architecture. The last thing it needs is a muddle of lawyer-approved signs marring the vista cautioning the obvious! And what happened to common sense? It's a miles long CLIFF WALK that clings over the ocean. It is outside, y'know --- in nature! Can't control nature and can't underestimate the stupidity of human beings to try.
Charlie Sheen In Los Angeles, Estate Of The Day {Luxist}
Jun 26th 2009 7:52PM What a pleasant surprise! Never been a fan of him or that dreadful, sophomoric 'comedy', but the house is just charming! Especially love the tile work and the light fixtures! Charlie Sheen always seems so . . . tawdry. Is he a closet sophisticate or did hebjust get a good decorator???
Riverdale, Estate of the Day {Luxist}
Jun 23rd 2009 9:58PM Riverdale is a terrific neighborhood, with a long history of being an exclusive enclave within the Bronx. Have you ever been?? Don't be so judgemental . . . But yeah, the decoration is just gawd awful! Someone please save this gem!
What Will Be The Future Of The Llenroc Estate? {Luxist}
Jun 23rd 2009 9:52PM Yes, it is a sad story. But c'mon, the house is hideous! That open staircase is the height of bad taste! Was a licensed architect even involved? Sorry, if it were to be torn down, it would be a end to the family's dreamhouse, but one less blight to mar the landscape.
The Brown Mansion, Estate of the Day {Luxist}
Jun 23rd 2009 9:46PM "Looks like it belongs on a university campus . . . " Wow! The editor obviously doesn't have a taste for this type of architecture. Romanesque can also be called Richardsonian after the great HH Richardson. Though not to everyone's taste, it is real architectural style and (dare I say) far more important in an artistic sense than a lot of the monstrosities that appear here.
