American Plane and Air Force Jets in Near Miss {AOL Travel News}
Feb 5th 2011 3:56PM And here I was worrying about the redundant statement 'close proximity.' However, this must've occurred in very 'close proximity' to my home. I see the C-17s fly overhead out towards Atlantic City every evening. And AC is almost exactly 80 miles southeast of NYC. Well, a near-miss (or near-hit for you sticklers) that I'm glad was 'averted' or I'd have likely witnessed a tragedy.

Don't Let 'Floppers' Flip Your House {Housingwatch}
Sep 9th 2010 9:56AM Cheryl--I do want to add that there are some states that do not allow the banks to come after you for the shortfall--the amount owed to the bank if the mortgage note is not paid in full after a short sale. They are, by law, required to accept what the house is sold for, and that must satisfy the mortgage. You, the now-former-homeowner, is not liable for any difference if the house is sold for less than what's owed on the mortgage. You must research your own state to find out if this applies to you regarding short sales.

Aug 20th 2010 12:07PM But you CAN be jailed for falsifying legal documents--if the case is serious enough. And his attorneys can be disbarred if these allegations are proven to be true. And yes,str8lines73, they BOTH strike me as slime.

May 20th 2010 10:27AM @ coolblue: Absolutely. Have you heard suggestions that the American Government has been hush-hushing and downplaying any recalls by American car companies, particularly the ones that had received bailouts? I've not seen any evidence to substantiate that claim, but it would stand to reason, if a car manufacturer has a product that has failures, it won't sell, hence, the bailout won't be paid back in a timely manner (GM's payback of the bailout money was only because they borrowed from other sources to pay it back--so I've read) and then the government invested in a failing venture. Of course it makes sense, however, there are the conspiracy theorists that sometimes twist facts enough to make them believable. Not exactly saying I believe it all--as you might be able to tell--but it sure does make a good case.
What it all boils down to is that car manufacturers, in the interest of gaining the public's trust, must produce a better product. No matter what the country of origin is. We put our lives in the hands of the designers, the screw-turners and the dealers every time we get behind the wheel of one of these machines. Perhaps gaining back our trust by making a product with safety and quality that we expect might be the answer to all these problems that the car manufacturers are having.

May 20th 2010 9:02AM @ Coolblue: There was at least one accident that I can recall as a result of Toyota's sticky gas pedal. That was with the California Highway Patrol officer (I think he was a lieutenant?) and he had his family in the car, a loaner Lexus that he received at the dealer while his own family car Lexus was in for service. He was driving on the freeway with his wife, his teen daughter, and his wife's brother in the car, and the gas pedal stuck, and he was going over 100 mph, unable to control the car, and ended up wrecking, a fiery crash in which all occupants died. Very sad.
I, however, also own a Toyota, and I must state a fact here: Last I checked, maybe a week or so ago, there were NO RECALLS on the FJ Cruiser. (we shall knock wood at this time) I wasn't too thrilled about the vehicle when I first got it, and I'm still not thrilled about the blind spots, but overall, I'm very pleased with the vehicle, the handling, the gas mileage, and maybe just a bit relieved that I insisted on a manual transmission. Gas pedal sticks, I clutch, engine tachs out, vehicle stops. Maybe Americans can stop being spoiled little pansies when it comes to driving, and go back to cars with manual transmissions. Part of the problem of wanting a car to drive itself, laziness, resulting in lack of control of your vehicle.
