Who is BP CEO Tony Hayward? {AOL Hot Searches}

Jun 11th 2010 5:05PM All of these comments confirm that most Americans...or at least AOL readers...are ignorant. Sad but true. Hayward is the CEO of an oil company. It profits him and his company ZERO to have to deal with a catastrophe like this. No doubt if they thought the probability of such an extremely rare disaster such as this could have occured, they would have been much better prepared to deal with it...out of their own self-interest. You can bet they WILL be in the future.

BP, and all of the other oil companies for that matter, provide an absolutely, positively essential service to us in supplying oil. Gulf oil is OUR oil, not Saudi Arabia's, or Iran's. Over 40 years have passed since a similiar accident in American waters. Pretty damn good track record, if you ask me. There are 30,000 wells in the gulf, and 1,200 active drilling operations. No, they have not responded as quickly as they should. They are a business like any other, with limited capabilities. They DO NOT have the staffs on the payroll to manage gigantic cleanups or pay claims. The very best that can possibly be done will take them time to ramp-up and do. That's just the way it is.

No matter how sick it makes us all to see the environmental and economic devastation, we should all use a little common sense (a rare thing, these days), and work WITH BP and others to solve these problems, instead of AGAINST them.

Should the United States Recognize Armenian Genocide? {Politics Daily}

Mar 3rd 2010 11:16AM I think the Congress needs to get on with business. This symbolic resolution may be a "feel good" resolution, but it is time consuming, and will certainly damage our relationship with Turkey, a NATO member and a staunch ally of ours for decades. I think most people believe the Ottoman Empire DID commit genocide almost a century ago. No one who had anything to do with it is even alive today, so what's the point? Turkey is a Republic with a reasonably good track record. Why should we irritate them over their predecessor's actions a century ago?

Emocean Design for World's Largest Yacht to Beat Abramovich {Luxist}

Feb 2nd 2010 1:11PM I do understand the sentiment expressed by Mr. Leslie; however, since the yacht is supposed to cost $500 million, that means that $500 million has to be SPENT. Spent on what? Employing shipbuilders, steel makers, engine manufacturers, cabinet makers, wiring makers, fiberglas suppliers, helicopter manufacturers,etc, etc., all of whom will employ workers to make these products for the boat.

Then 70 crew will have jobs, and since the yacht will presumably be calling on ports around the world, will supply additional jobs for food and fuel suppliers, dockworkers, and others to support this vessel.

So, Mr. Leslie, it doesn't matter how these gazillionaires spend their money, so long as the do, in fact, spend it!

Video: Michael Steele Uses Native American Slur in Hannity Interview {Politics Daily}

Jan 5th 2010 2:53PM I have heard- and used- that expression for DECADES! It's just an expression, common as dirt. It has NOTHING to do with American Indians. Aren't we ALL getting a little tired of people LOOKING for a reason to be insulted? Isn't it time we all got over this incessent PC crap?

And while we are at it...American Indians ARE "Native Americans"...and so is everyone else who was born in this country. Any caucasian, negro, American Indian, Chinese, or WHATEVER who was born in the USA is also a "Native American"!

Sheesh!

Palin photographer breached contract with sale to Newsweek {Daily Finance}

Nov 18th 2009 5:46PM You know what? Sarah Palin IS sexy! What...is she supposed to pretend she's not?

Why don't you crackpots- from the Right as well as the Left- just look at the photo, say she's a good-looking gal, and move on, for goodness sakes?

Detroit stadium or New York studio? The Silverdome sells for $583,000 {Daily Finance}

Nov 18th 2009 11:12AM You are right. Profits are what keep companies in business. And profit is sales less costs including the stratospherically high Michigan union payrolls. Need to make a profit? Cut the payroll costs...even if it means relocating jobs to where labor costs are more reasonable.

Unions created a false utopia for thousands of workers for many years. Now the competitive market won't allow for union gouging anymore. It's tough but true.

Plouffe Book: Bill Clinton Doomed Hillary's VP Chances, Obama Predicted Palin Choice Debacle {Politics Daily}

Oct 30th 2009 4:34PM You know, I don't like Obama's policies, either. Cap & Trade, Health Care, foreign policy, the grossly mismanaged "stimulus"... BUT, I don't think he's either a Marxist, Communist, or Nazi.

I don't think it's productive to resort to name calling, or making outlandish comments about Obama. Civil disagreement will, in the end, do more to influence people.

Lobbyists Annoyed With New Obama Regulations {Politics Daily}

Oct 6th 2009 11:22AM Finally! Obama actually doing something positive...and all without his TelePrompter and his endless, empty rhetoric. Guess the guy isn't a complete idiot after all.

Banks continue to tighten loans, slowing recovery {Daily Finance}

Aug 18th 2009 11:17AM All of the talk from the Government about "helping" small businesses is just political claptrap. Even when they appropriate monies for this purpose, they aren't smart enough to figure out how to get in the hands of the small businesses (defined by the gov't as under 500 employees, if you can believe that!) so it can go to work.
Rhetoric, rhetoric, rhetoric...that's all we can expect from Mr. Change & Company. All big, confident talk, and NO action.
Will someone in Washington get their heads out of their posteriors, and actually DO SOMETHING!!!
