New Behind-the-Scenes Film Explores Why 'SNL' Is Not Funny {Asylum}

Apr 30th 2010 5:13PM When I was a kid, I used to develop obsessions with certain foods. Say it was tuna. I was a picky eater, and I realized I liked tuna. Tuna "worked". So when lunchtime came, I ate tuna. Every day. Inevitably, several weeks or months later, I would wake up one morning and hate tuna. Loathe it. And not touch it again for years. I did this with more foods than I can count.

SNL has been like that for me lately. They say, Kristen Wiig "works", so they have her star in every skit. And now she's not really working anymore. People are getting sick of all of the nearly identical one-joke characters she has. She's immensely talented and funny, but they cling to one of the things that she did that worked and have stopped trying anything new. This also applies to Will Forte's characters and, unfortunately, a lot of Andy Samberg's work. I still love SNL and watch it every week, and I do agree that it has always been hit or miss (and realistically, who can expect a weekly comedy sketch show to be anything better than hit or miss?)and I think the people who say it's not worth watching anymore are the people clinging to nostalgia who can't recognize that a crapload of stuff Chevy Chase and gang did wasn't funny. They either haven't rewatched it in years or fondly remember only the funny material.

High School Erases Gay Student From Yearbook {Lemondrop}

Apr 30th 2010 4:41PM I would be a little more sympathetic if this happened to a transgender person.

The rule and tradition IS a bit ridiculous, and the school definitely took it way too far by excluding her and defending their actions in legal battles, but I do also have to kind of agree that just because you are gay doesn't mean you get to wear what you want when everyone else gets a uniform. If a heterosexual girl who didn't like dresses demanded to wear something else for the two second picture (and by the way, these aren't actual dresses and tuxes these kids usually wear. they're just bibs they put on for the picture to make it look formal from the shoulders upward) people would think she was throwing a tantrum over something ridiculous.

So I DO side with this student based on the way she was treated, but it was in her power to avoid the situation all along, and I don't think that this issue should be given the same weight as say, gay students who aren't allowed to attend their proms. The school turned it into a homosexual issue, yes, but homosexuals don't have the God-given right to ignore dress codes imposed on everyone else. When you agree to attend a school you agree to comply by those rules, superficial as they are.

Real Love Stories: I Didn't Call Him Back {Personal Articles}

Apr 24th 2010 3:52AM Yes, in the future, don't date men who have children, since you're clearly incapable of understanding and respecting the fact that children are SUPPOSED to come before girlfriends.

"Million Dollar Listing's" Starla (the Chihuahua) is Sitting High {Luxist}

Apr 21st 2010 2:48AM yeah, if they insisted on putting her in the high chair they could have at least made sure she could reach her food. poor dog.

Why I Could No Longer Be a Catholic {Politics Daily}

Apr 11th 2010 2:22AM People are not talking about leaving the Church because there happen to have been sexually abusive priests. They are leaving because the Church authorities and the Pope himself have made decisions time and time again to allow these men to keep their jobs, to suffer no legal ramifications, and to receive no discipline. If there is a sick man who is a priest, he should be removed from his duties and offered psychiatric help, not allowed continued access to innocent child victims. Also, these Vatican officials are acting childishly, claiming that THEY are the persecuted ones, not the victims of pedophilia, but the Church officials who now have to bear the cross of doing some damage-control PR. They have even compared what they are experiencing to antisemitism. Excuse me, but HOW does that work?

So no, it is not the same as deciding to leave the Boy Scouts or the 4-H club. If the national leader of the boy scouts responded to accusations of hundreds of cases of sexual abuse within the organization with inaction, denial, and retaliation at the media, then maybe it might start to be close to the same issue.

Thick Hair How-to's: From Best Hair Cut to Beachy Waves {Stylelist}

Apr 5th 2010 11:35PM my hair cries out in pain (well, not literally) when I wash it every day for weeks on end. It dries up and gets very brittle. Now that I wash it less often it's the healthiest it's ever been and I get complimented on it all the time. It doesn't even begin to feel or look like it's getting dirty until the end of the second day. I wash every other day but can and have stretched it longer, and I know people who go a week without washing (that i cannot do, but maybe some people can). my hair is naturally very thick, coarse, and wavy.

the one thing i don't agree with on this article is not having to cut your hair as often. my hair is so thick that it starts to pouf out in unflattering ways if i don't regularly get trims with lots of layers cut into it.

Katharine McPhee Goes Back to Brunette {Stylelist}

Apr 5th 2010 11:19PM kinda unrelated to the specific article, but related to the brunette flipbook. So many blonde celebrities who go dark (and vice versa) don't know how to compensate for the change. A hair cut or style that works on you when you have one hair color won't necessary compliment you when you change the color. Good examples are Katherine Heigl and Scarlett Johannson. The harsh bombshell hairdos they rocked as blondes don't flatter them as brunettes. They need softer hair cuts, more hair framing their faces, something!

Ricky Martin Gay Bombshell: 'I am a Fortunate Homosexual Man' {PopEater}

Mar 29th 2010 9:03PM This is the second celebrity who has dropped the gay "bombshell" AFTER basically outing himself by having children as a single father via a surrogate. Once you do that, it's kinda not really a bombshell anymore. If it ever was.

Controversial 'Remember Me' Ending Dividing Critics and Audiences {Moviefone Blog}

Mar 24th 2010 11:02PM We made WWII movies during the actual war, immediately afterwards, and continuing until present day. Many opened to critical and audience acclaim and remain classics today. Please tell me why no one is allowed to mention 9/11 in a movie or use it as a historical event in the movie. The movie doesn't sound very good, but when people cry "offensive!" because filmmakers acknowledge the fact that 9/11 happened it makes little sense to me. Movies have always recalled major historical events both good and bad and often use them as plot devices or settings of their stories. Grow up, people.

'Dancing With the Stars' 2010 Lineup: DWTS Season 10 Cast Revealed {Inside TV Blog}

Mar 1st 2010 10:51PM did anyone else's jaw drop when they saw that the article discusses every D-lister who will be competing this year, but relegated BUZZ ALDRIN (and only buzz aldrin) to just a mention in the list at the bottom? did the author not know who he is?
