Rolls-Royce, The Car Of Choice {Luxist}
Jul 22nd 2006 7:15PM Oh and to the comment above about the green jag, being a car, yeah and it's also a decent car now because it's a Ford under the skin. The Brits could make em pretty but they couldn't make them run or handle.
Rolls-Royce, The Car Of Choice {Luxist}
Jul 22nd 2006 7:08PM Some of the nice people in the UK seem unhappy about the German influance in the new Rolls. They seem to have forgotten that while many old English cars were beautiful to look at. They were undependable, plain and simple. They had all kinds of fun stuff for us yanks to deal with. Lucas electric's. Positive ground, many had Amal Carbs which were nothing short of a nightmare to work on. The bolts were not metric, there were not SAE they were British Standard, or Wentworth Anyone remember the 4 day work week in the UK in the 70's? We thought all the parts were in England and we just couldn't get them. Until we started getting calls at my Dads Triumph Dealership from folks across the pond looking for parts.
All in all the English made a nice car until the late 60's. When there economy went in the crapper so did the quality of there cars. Remeber the TR7, or even worse the TR8.
If the Germans hadn't steped in there wouldn't be any English cars left. So be happy that your cars still look English but run German.
But personnally, I still only buy and drive American.
Thats why I won't buy a new Mopar product.
