Nigella Lawson cutting kids out of will {ParentDish}

Jan 30th 2008 6:42PM I fully understand her commitment to leaving money for the greater good, such as cancer research and treatment. I also understand her feelings that 110 million pounds, more than $220 million U.S. is alot to leave to her kids. However, I think it's very unfair to decide that when she goes, her kids will be virtually penniless, especially if for some reason she doesn't make it to a very old age. I cannot imagine a 'normal' loving mother who would not want her children to be financially secure when she's no longer around. I also find it strange that she seems to speak for her husband, who is the father (and Nigella is NOT the biological mother) of his own daughter. If Ms. Lawson feels so strongly that wealth is wrong, why doesn't she give her money to charity RIGHT NOW? Also, I'm wondering. Assuming her kids are living a better than average life right now, what happens when she is no longer around? They immediately starve and live on the streets? All I know is that normal mothers want their children to lead a better life than them.

Oprah Devastated by Abuse Allegations at School {Blackvoices Main}

Oct 29th 2007 4:28PM This is outrageous. It's certainly not Oprah's fault a deviant fell between the cracks. Whether you like Oprah or not, her generosity and sincerity in building this school is more than most Americans, regardless of race and financial capability would ever consider doing. Those who are judging Oprah in a negative way, go to a mirror and look at yourself, and ask, 'what have I done for someone else today?'

Woman Arrested for Kissing $2.7 Million Dollar Painting {Luxist}

Jul 31st 2007 1:42PM I still haven't received an answer.
I'm well acquainted with Art History, and the value placed on various styles of painting whether I personally like the style(s) of different artists, or not. However, I have never heard of a canvas either left paint-less OR painted 'bone' white with a value of $2.7 million, much less the couple of bucks for the cost of the paint. This HAD to be a publicity stunt. P.S. Did the artist at least sign this 'masterpiece?'

Thank God for the Atom Bomb {News Bloggers}

Jul 7th 2007 1:07PM I find many of these comments fascinating, considering the fact that most of us weren't even born until after WW11 or at least old enough to have lived through the 1930's and 40's as adults. Perhaps we should have left Hitler alone, too. Of course if we had, most of us wouldn't be around now unless we were born with blonde hair and blue eyes. I, too have mixed feelings about the bombings of Japan. However, those who begin wars by trying to take over other countries are usually psychotic sociopaths with little self-esteem, and anger at events that took place long before their own time. Leaders such as these don't care what happens to their own people. They just want power and reigning supreme.It was horrible what happened to the Japanese people from those bombings. But, what do you think would have happened to America had Japan created the bombs first?

In Praise of Dead White Men {News Bloggers}

Jul 4th 2007 9:41PM I am tired of the rhetoric regarding how the Founding Fathers are the current cause of misery for anyone who does have blonde hair, blue eyes, a Norweigan ancestry and a Harvard education. Let me begin by saying very few, if any Americans arrived on these shores via luxury liners or by first class air travel. Every 'white group' whether German, Russian, Irish, Italian was forced to live in the most abomidable conditions, work at grueling jobs for pennies and reside in overwhelmingly overcrowded tenament buildings in 5 and 6 story walk-up apartments. The first thing these immigrants did was to learn ENGLISH, and they forced their families to speak ENGLISH at home. Back then, there certainly wasn't any 'press one for English, etc., etc.'They made sure their children attended school, WHATEVER school was available in their neighborhood so they would get an education. There wasn't any welfare back then, nor Section 8 housing, HEPA to pay utility bills, etc., etc....Yet, these people survived and their children and grandchildren became success stories. I know some of you want to talk about slavery and how most American Blacks, Hispanics and women for that matter were treated until the Civil Rights and Equal Rights bills came along. More importantly, let's talk about how millions of these citizens took advantage of these bills, sought better educations and became very, very successful. It's time we stopped blaming the past for our present and future failures. As Jesse Jackson once said, 'it doesn't matter if someone knocks you down, you're the one who has to pull yourself up.'
There's plenty to celebrate on the 4th. How about the fact that all of us can speak on minds freely, as we're doing on these blogs? That America is the only country where we have a chance at success and a new beginning every single day? That we can go back to college at any age, and begin a new career even AFTER we retire from the first one? If this wasn't such a great country, then how come 12 million immigrants are here illegally? That people risk their lives traveling to these shores in homemade boats? Yet, we're lucky enough to be here. Just because some of you don't make enough money to buy a $5 million dollar mansion, a new Mercedes or a $1,000 designer t-shirt...don't be angry at the small group of Americans from Scandanavian descent. I can't afford those things either, yet I can't IMAGINE living in another place where I couldn't choose my own future, or for that matter have the chance to change that future over and over and over again. God bless America and everyone who lives here, whether we agree or not!

Stop the Aging Process ... or at Least Try {AOL Hot Searches}

Jun 25th 2007 12:25PM The BEST is still Clinique. It's not just for kids. Their Turnaround weekly 15 minute facial and Moisture On-Line WORKS! I have dry, sensitive skin and this product line is excellent for ANY age. More expensive products do not always work better. In addition, the best anti-aging regime includes ALOT of water, veggies, fruits, no-smoking (aside from health risks, smoking causes lines around your mouth and a sallow color to your complexion)and enough sleep. It's also in the genes.

Why They Burned Richard Gere in Effigy {News Bloggers}

Apr 17th 2007 9:30PM For all I care they can burn Imus, Sharpton and Jackson in effigy. Of course, it's just slightly over the top. But, when are we going to learn to be good neighbors. We do what we want in our own home, and our neighbors live according to 'their' traditions and ideas.It seems 'celebrities' like Gere, Rosie O'Donnell, etc. can raise the anger of other cultures to extreme levels, the run out to their bullet proof limos, surrounded by gun-toting bodyguards, while the rest of us are forced to take the wrath and revenge of their remarks. It's enough.And, we ALL become the ugly Americans!

Cho Seung-Hui's Plays {News Bloggers}

Apr 17th 2007 9:02PM Sadly, this guy saw himself as a victim with no way out of his situation....except with force and violence. "Mr. Brownstone" seems to be an omni-powerful adult, stealing his money but actually stealing his 'life.' Mr. McBeef seems to have taken his symbolic 'real' father away, leaving his sad 'character' with only rage. Perhaps in real life this guy felt his anger at what he 'described' as rich kids, perceiving their parents as 'better' because these kids received more monetarily. This guy felt cheated, jealous, vengeful. He may have murdered because he mistakenly thought wealth meant more love. It's unfortunate but our society through the media seems to establish success by what we can afford, by what we own. Perhaps this helped push the murderer over the edge, as he seemed to think he had little money, i.e. therefore he was nothing and he would kill others, since in 'his' mind 'they' had taken from him. Whatever the case, this is a very sad story and a very painful loss of life for the entire nation.

"We Told You So, Imus" the Muslims Rejoice {News Bloggers}

Apr 13th 2007 9:41AM Imus is the one who was 'caught'...his comment being both racist and sexist. What about Howard Stern? Those nauseating 'Girls Behaving Badly' videos? Brittney Spear's personal areas being photographed and sent worldwide over the web? And, of course the rappers. Blame it on the media, but more so on alot of YOU who continue to WANT this lowlife trash in YOUR homes. Things STOP when YOU stop paying for them, watching them, listening to them. Why are YOU depending on Jesse and AL to stop ALL sexist and racist media? Turn off YOUR tv, CD or PC when this stuff comes on, and it will ALL go out of fashion like last year's designer jeans.

What Size Should Models Be? {oldstylelist}

Feb 9th 2007 8:12AM First, let's place the blame on many though not all 'designers.' We now have something called 'modern sizing', where a size 6 now fits a size 4, as measurements have been scaled down. Since the number of the size many young girls wear becomes a 'psychological' thing, they think they're fat even though they still weigh the same and are built the same. Secondly, blame it on the media, from commercials for diet drugs where some woman runs onto the screen announcing that she was fat at a size 10, and now is back to her old size 2...or on shows such as Dr 90210, where 18 year olds come on and announce they can't have 'confidence' until they have breast implants, liposuction, etc. It seems we've created a bizarre image for women of going 'beyond' perfection...it's never enough. Thirdly, I think there's way too much press on what NOT to eat, that EVERYTHING except a small salad and a gallon of water is bad for you...has created a generation of women whose body image has nothing to do with health, but rather of models and celebrities who live off cigarettes, coffee and a couple of lettuce leaves.
