Sep 8th 2008 1:24AM I have the sickle cell trait ,and comming up as a kid I was always ill with eye infections and strept throat and ear infections, along with stomach pains and lots of nose bleeds and I was always anemic with low iron and blood count I never had to have a blood transfusion because I only had the trait, I have 3 children and 2 out of my 3 kids has the trait but never been sick like I was as a child. Doctors found out when I got a open sore that got infected and would not heal the open wound was on my left ankle. Most people think that the sickle cell trait is asymptomatic but having the sickle cell trait can lead to heart disease or arthritis. people need to be educated on the trait as well.

I have 3 children and 2 out of my 3 has the sickle cell trait also. people need to teach pepole that the trait can also lead to health issues like arthritis or heart conditions.
