Crime in Mexico: Is Puerto Vallarta unsafe for travelers? {Gadling}
Mar 1st 2012 11:01AM Good article, but it still does not lessen the dangers throughout Mexico. The Cartels, not the government. They have tendrils everywhere, including PV and small towns. Since outsiders do not know where or when they (the Cartels) have business or a grievance, it's not fear tactics to want to avoid all red-lined areas. (If you are not familiar with red-lining, look it up.)
While the writer has a point that there can be danger for tourists anywhere in the world, in a country where 47,500 people have died from Cartel-related murders, where heads are posted on stakes outside of resorts, and where traffic is halted while armed gunmen mow down their target, it ony makes sense to be extra careful when choosing a vacation spot.
Mexico is a beautiful country with great tourist attractions and wonderful historical sites. It's a shame the drug wars have escalated so much that tourists do think more than twice before vacationing there.
Homeowners Association Forecloses on Vet for $340 {AOL Real Estate}
Jan 25th 2012 3:15PM I agree with you on all accounts. The original intent of HOAs has been lost in the "upgrades" and the once-friendly neighborhood organizations have become tyranical Boards of Directors who have tunnel vision and dreams of power. My cousin lives in a neighborhood where all homes must be of the same color, all sidewalks leading up to the home exactly the same length, all cookie-cutter landscaping, and holiday decorations of one color and only so much, no flashing lights or blown up snowmen, etc. It's worse than apartment living! The excuse is so that the neighborhood maintains its "attractiveness" and "property values." Unfortunately, in today's real estage market, my cousin is trapped there and cannot afford to move. Boy, do the HOA Boards know they have their members by the ying-yang!

Jan 25th 2012 3:04PM What does Jeb Bush have to do with this situation? He is not Governor of Florida, nor is he President of the HOA.

Jan 25th 2012 2:57PM I am also glad I'm not moving anywhere near, let alone into, your HOA. While they had good ideas originally . . . homeowners coming together to ensure their neighborhood doesn't become blighted . . . HOAs have evolved into dictatorships, featuring board members who seemingly enjoy the power they have over their members. As a homeowner, I would want to paint my house whatever color I wish . . . fushia, even, if that was my choice . . . have a fence or not, of whatever material I wanted, and decorate when and if I choose, using colored lights or white lights, my choice. So, no, I would not want to move into a one-size-fits-all neighborhood where the residents become puppets on a string.

Jan 25th 2012 1:07PM HOAs should be totally outlawed! For the most part, they are power-hungry little-dictators. The idea of HOAs was good at the time, to keep neighborhoods all spiffy and free of eyesores, but in practice, as with all good ideas, it has evolved into a dictatorship of puffy, self-important board members who revel in telling other folks what they can and cannot do in and about their own homes. A pox on them all! I hope someone steps up to the plate and bails this veteran out of this ridiculous problem.
Slideshow: See 6 of Mitt Romney's Homes {AOL Real Estate}
Jan 25th 2012 1:03PM Good for Romney! Nancy Pelosi, one of the richest members of congress, has at least 4 homes plus investment properties, plus, plus, plus. Neither is relevant to whether or not either is competent for the jobs they do, or the job for which they apply.
Personally, I wish elections weren't decided on who has the biggest warchest (money), but who has the best ideas, and the means to implement them, for our country.
Too bad elections on all levels are decided on who can get the most money to flood the airwaves with the most negative of ads, instead of stumping with ideas and qualifications of how one can change things for the better.
Celebrities Celebrate the Red, White and Blue (Photos) {PopEater}
Jul 4th 2011 4:00PM Sorry, but wearing a flag-themed dress, or one made from the flag, or a flag shirt, or a hardly-there bikini in red-white-blue does not make one patriotic. Gary Sinese is an example of a real celeb patriot, and I am sure there are more but few are pictured in these examples. I am expecially offended by the dress obviously made out of a real flag.

May 17th 2011 8:28PM Ok, what are the Democratic family values? If you don't know, ask Rev. Jesse Jackson, Pres Bill Clinton, The Kennedys (put any Kennedy male's name there, including John, Bobby, Ted). They'll surely tell you what family values are. Then we can all follow them, right?

May 17th 2011 8:21PM *choke* Disgraced the KENNEDYS? Excuse me??!! He disgraced his own family, yes, and his wife, yes, but NOT THE KENNEDYS! Have you forgotten how many of them have been/are womanizers (not to mention one of them driving off a dock and leaving a woman to drown to save his own buttola)? Have you forgotten John Kennedy and his womanizing (and the rumors about Marilyn Monroe)? No, he didn't disgrace the Kennedys, but he did bring dishonor to his own family, and to the child he fathered with another woman.
