Pork: No Longer 'The Other White Meat'? {WalletPop}
Mar 6th 2011 2:47PM I agree! I love pork! I was raised as a Reformed Jew. Even though our family did not keep Kosher; (my dad made excellent baked hams; while my Mom did great job on broiled baby back-ribs) - - many of my relatives & friends did abstain from Pork. There was l something naughty about Pork. Naughty in good way! It was considered an "indulgence". A rich and delicious treat.
For pork lovers, what could be better than a double sausage pizza? Stuffed pork chops or Loin of Pork with a cornbread dressing and thick mushroom gravy? Talk about comfort food, there will be some pork dish to make a "food addict" smile. I see fewer complaints re QC in Pork Industry. They seem to comply better w/govt safety standards.
Most of all, the slogan "Pig Out on Pork" is wonderful because it seems to address the issue that many of us are tired of hearing about health & nutrition. Many people eat for sheer pleasure. Many of us are not enthralled with idea of gov't coming into our schools and indeed, our own kitchens, and telling us how to plan our family menus.
During a recent family reunion, we noted that our grandparents, (born around late 19th century, we are boomers) lived much longer and healthier than our parents. We asked why? They ate salted, high carb, high choles. & high cal food. They did not go to 'gyms to "work out". They died in their 90s. Our parents, however, had Dr's constantly harassing them about diets and exercise. They lost weight so they would qualify for "life-sav ing" open heart surgery. Post-op, our parents seemed scared to death of a strip of bacon, never mind a full rack of baby-back ribs! As for aggressive surgery, sadly, it became known that it was no panacea. Instead of QA I prefer quality of life, which includes eating for pleasure when I choose to.
Rihanna Hair Evolution 2010 {Stylelist}
Jan 20th 2011 2:25PM What a shame these comments had to morph into a racist platform, instead of commenting on a fun/funky wig sported by Rhianna, a strikingly beautiful young talent.
I loved Rhianna's a-symetrical hair-cuts and her use of "fun" colors for highlighting. I don't happen to like this wig, it just hides her beautiful face. It reminds me of Amy Winehouse's beehive in a way. Both are distortions and do nothing to enhance the wearer. Granted, Amy W, a huge talent, is not blessed with the beauty of Rhianna. I wish they would both ditch these distractions to their talents/looks.

Jan 3rd 2011 6:44AM I also love the people you mentioned. Sammy Davis and Sinatra R not 2 B replaced.They are from a different galaxy. A different time. I agree w/U re many of today's "pop" artists. BUT, we do have: Rufus Wainright, Justin Timberlake, USHER, The Blackeyed Peas,and that dazzling young toast of Broadway, JARARD SPECTOR, who leads the cast of Jersey Boys. Do check them out with open mind, and they may well rock your day! They were not mentioned this year, but they will be back; in the words of that sappy old "Hallmark" song, they have only just begun. We have not even heard the best of them yet!

Jan 3rd 2011 6:29AM I'm really 2 old 2 B participating in this; I am, after-all an old Hippy/faded-flowerGirl waiting for the DarkAngel. In my life I have loved some pretty profound music: The Doors (When the Music's Over is replaying now),DavidBowie,JackieWilson,Frankie Lyman,(w/orW-out his Teenagers); Elvis in front&back. When I heard Bruno Mars's Just the Way U R, I thought 2-cute 4 a recycled title, then I felt a shiver. He did something VERY different and he is taking Pop in a new, beautiful direction. He also has charisma & a beautiful smile.
Paul McCartney to Receive Gershwin Prize From President Obama at White House {Spinner}
May 26th 2010 8:35AM Skip: Sorry, we are NOT all Republians here. In case you haven't noticed, this country has some very serious problems. It's not realistic to think any one person, as President can do quick easy fix. While many were perhaps too hopeful Obama could turn this around; things have gotten WORSE. A lot worse. Here is Obama & his first lady entertaining in such a garish manner, when people are hurting. He tells us to tighten up, she tells us to help our children lose wt; and they have lavish dinners that feature this gourmet beef that is priced at $59.00/lb min. They proudly bring in extra chefs to supplement the W H galley. On our dime! We look at the State Dinner pictures, and we have to feel sorry for the spouses of our guests. Both the Indian and Mexican first ladies were dressed so modestly compared to First Lady Michelle, in her dazzling gowns that recall the TV era of Dynesty. We are no longer living in the 1980's. Bob Mackie is no longer around. I usually enjoy pretty clothes and seeing our First Ladies looking great, but this image the Obamas are projecting is almost cruel. I applauded Mrs. O for replacing the social secretary who seemed to be making lots of PR mistakes. Sadly, this White House does not get it. The times, they are a changing indeed -- and not for the best. Many Americans feel, we need a different style of leadership. It has been one crisis after another. Skip, open your eyes, read both Liberal, Conservative and Moderate press. We are in big trouble. We ask ourselves, is Obama the right leader for right now? The answer may be found here. Moderate, intellegent people are angry and grossed out re this Administration. The lines for the tea parties will only get longer.
Michelle Obama Reveals Malia's Upcoming Laundry Chores {Politics Daily}
May 8th 2010 11:03PM The Obamas may indeed be leaving the W.H. in 2012, especially at the rate things are going. They will not, however, be moving to the Poor House. Quite the contrary, they will both get high speaking fees, plenty of glamerous and wonderful job offers to choose from. As for the daughters, they might be having an even more enjoyable lifestyle not being in the public eye. It must be very stifling to first family kids, to have the burden of being great role models 24/7. Please, I am not endorsing all of Mrs. Obama's "values". I also see her as very flamboyant, acting out a very lavish 1st Lady role for herself and family while so many Americans are hurting from our bad economy and loss of jobs. Mrs. Obama and her family will not be hurting when they leave WH, so there is no sense wasting time on that issue. What is important is making sure we are pro-active politically and taking steps to vote in people who reflect our values. Grousing and jelousy will not get that job done.
Barry Manilow Recording Best 'Make-out Album of All Time' {Spinner}
Apr 19th 2010 6:34AM I doubt, based upon my observations, that will happen. I was curious about this guy, who is very controversial, and wanted to learn more about him. I went to his "social-network-fansite" (whatever it's called) to get a better feel for him. He owns this fan site, btw. Fans are NOT allowed to discuss his "private life" AT. ALL. In public statements, his mgmt team claims he is not gay.
Here is a composer/preformer who has written all these love songs & is so beloved to his female fan base. They truly do not want to accept the idea of his being gay. His audiance is broad, he does have some intellegent fans, but there is that naive, working-class mentality too conservative to embrace civil rights for gays, much less accept that Man of Their Dreams, may not be straight. His fan site is very fascinating and I hope this movie comes about! It is amazing what goes on there, I think the fans are just as interesting as he is!
At White House Seder: Gefilte Fish, Brisket and a Host of Familiar Faces {Politics Daily}
Mar 31st 2010 7:05PM I find this mock Seder, in retrospect of the President's handling of Israel-'american relations last week to be total sham. The fact that he wears no skull cap would not usually bother me, but perhaps it s symbolic of his wanting to distance himself from this "Jewish" celebration. This Seder may have been a "cute" idea last yr, of signifying good will to Jews, but not now. No way. As for Mr. Emanuel, even if he abhors the current leader of Israel, I don't see how he can serve this President, as an American Jew, with any self respect.
Is Angelina Jolie Turning Shiloh Into a Boy? Parenting Experts Weigh In {ParentDish}
Mar 4th 2010 11:35AM Thank you for sharing your expertise Dr. Walfish. Many people here are upset about the primary issue of even commenting about a celeb couple. they might be fans of "Brangelina" or have a Liberal mind-set on child development. That being said, the parents are fully aware that their daughter is going to photographed; and I think prepared for how they want their family perceived. We see what was once a beautiful little girl now being bandied about in masculine dress. I would say the outfit I saw on AOL's lead picture was more extreme than "tomboy".
How sad. I agree with you that this is not a healthy thing, to confuse a daughter named Shiloh that she can be be a boy named John at the snap of her finger! For the parents to allow their daughter to flounder in all this inappropriate costuming is not fair to her in the long run. I respect your reasons for enforcing boundaries. I hope these parents come to their senses. Based upon their past social history, I doubt it. Sadly, celebs do contribute lots to our Popular Culture.
Is Angelina Jolie Turning Shiloh Into a Boy? Parenting Experts Weigh In {ParentDish}
Mar 4th 2010 10:50AM Thank you Kimberly! You said it plain and simple. There are heartbreaking situations where kids are born with freaky conditions, like hemaphrodism. We don't have all the answers in understanding homosexual behavior. Angelina was blessed with a beautiful, healthy little girl! She could at least give her child an opportunity to enjoy being a girl!
Indulging all this extreme tomboy stuff is likely to create confusion and heartbreak. There will come a day when Shiloh will have to adjust to a world that is very different from the family she grew up with. Humans tend to be conformists; they don't feel comfortable w/abberant behavior. And that is what Angelina is encouraging, abberant behavior.
In the meantime, Angelina is a powerful, wealthy movie star who thinks she is Mother Theresa w/a gothic past. Angelina will do just what she wants to do. May g*d help those kids growing up in such an atmosphere.
