It all started in the 80's. In a way you can blame BMW hate on John Hughes and other film directors. One of the easiest ways to establish a character was a yuppie jerk was to put them in a 3 series (preferably convertible) have them say something nasty to Anthony Michael Hall and drive off.
It worked. I still hate BMWs.
Oh, and the fact that the X6 thing is just fugly AND has hedge fund tool written all over it. It's perfect for saying something nasty to Shia Le Beouf and driving off.
