Holiday Parties -- A Dying Breed? {Luxist}
Nov 26th 2008 4:08PM My office is fewer than 40 people, and senior staff decided that this year's party will be a pot luck, where we all bring something we consider a "specialty" of ours. I don't really cook, so I may be purchasing something, but I don't mind the idea of a pot luck. The company had fed and watered me many times, and this may be more fun anyway, as we try foods our colleagues made just for us.
Dear neighbor: Thanks for the magazines! {WalletPop}
May 11th 2008 8:29PM I do this all the time, but it's the trash room on my floor that I check for magazines, newspapers and clean boxes (I mail a lot of stuff). In fact, in my old building, my wealthy neighbor and his magazine editor wife threw out their trash each night at 10 p.m., like clockwork. By 10:05 p.m., I'd be in there, looking for good finds. I felt like a bit of a sneak, but I often got up-to-the-minute, barely touched magazines and newspapers. When they were expecting a baby and cleaning out, I hit the jackpot on new, unwrapped housewares. It's amazing what people will toss. You just have to be careful not to overtake just because it's new or free.
