Consumers cutting the credit card habit, but is it voluntary? {WalletPop}

Mar 1st 2010 5:30PM Mine was not voluntary - it was entirely due to a falling credit score because of a foreclosure even though the credit card bill was always paid ahead of time. I imagine that the majority of people find themselves in a similar situation.

Negotiating with your lender: Get them to listen to you {WalletPop}

May 20th 2008 1:19AM You have a very good point here. It is not the customer service representative or the collections representative who have caused the current boom in foreclosures and bankruptcies. The blame squarely rests on the brokers and real estate agents and banks and appraisers and home buyers and credit card users (There are problem dozens of others who should be on this list, but these are the big players).

The important thing is for people in financial difficulties to deal with their problems in a courteous and professional manner. More progress will be made using such tactics than by finger pointing and harsh language or even angry tones of voice.

House in foreclosure? Set it on fire! {WalletPop}

May 20th 2008 1:09AM This is a good video, and more people need to see it - especially those people face hard times and possibly foreclosure. Maybe seeing this video will prevent people from taking such foolish and disastrous actions. Burning your house down is a HUGE CRIME punishable by HUGE FINES and JAIL TIME and a CRIMINAL RECORD. IT WILL NOT FREE YOU FROM DEBT.

Everyone should be aware that people facing financial problems face a lot of stress and grasp at any chance of hope that they can - even burning down their home.

I hope this video makes its rounds on the Internet and television networks.

Ask the Dolans: Should I use a debt-reduction service? {WalletPop}

May 20th 2008 1:01AM I had about $30,000 in credit card debt maybe ten years ago. A not-for-profit credit counseling service helped me setup payment plans. Unfortunately, looking back, I do not think they did very much that I could not have done myself. The interest rates were not reduced very much, maybe a little; and none of the debt was eliminated through negotiations - plus I was asked to pay a contribution of about $35 each month to the not-for-profit. Looking back, I doubt I would use their services again.

Be careful which companies you use, and try all your own efforts first before you enlist a third party.

Huge Jupiter Florida Estate Hits the Auction Block {Luxist}

Apr 24th 2008 11:08AM I hope they have better luck than me. I have three properties on the market on Perdido Key, FL. I can't even sell these at half price, and I 've had them listed for about seven months now. Any buyers?
