If gift cards are struggling, then retail is really in trouble {BloggingStocks}
Nov 25th 2008 6:18PM I've been commenting on bloggingstocks a few times about retailers filing for bankruptcy and the health of their gift cards. I work for a company that sells and manages gift cards. Personally? I'm not a fan of gift cards. I think it's crazy how we "invented" a form of money. It's a shame that retailers are filing for bk and not honoring their gift cards. They should at least offer insurance on them. With the recent bk's, leveragecard.com, started a new policy which protects our users who purchased gift cards from us. In other words, if gift cards are purchased through leveragecard.com, we'll replace it, if retailers belly up.
Circuit City thinking about bankrupcy? {Big Download}
Oct 30th 2008 7:35PM When I first heard about the closing down, I wasn't too entirely shocked. I went out and attempted to interview some shoppers and employees. Wasn't as successful as I'd thought it was going to be. I posted it on youtube, and an Circuit City employee contacted me and agreed to an interview. I think you might find this interesting. http://tinyurl.com/6nas4m
Circuit City (CC): Store closures and layoffs may be coming all over the U.S. {BloggingStocks}
Oct 30th 2008 7:30PM I've been following this for a while now. I decided to go on the field and interview some Circuit City co-workers. Turns out no one wanted to say anything. I ended up posting the video on youtube and received a couple of responses from employees. One agreed to answer a few questions for me. You might find it interesting, and I'd like to share with you, what he said: http://tinyurl.com/6nas4m
AIG Partied At The St. Regis Monarch Beach {Luxist}
Oct 8th 2008 3:05PM I don't even know what to say. I've been following the bailout on savvywallet, and hearing this news today totally bummed me out. I almost thought American Companies would finally start taking some responsibility. Turns out, we trusted the companies too much. If they wanted a retreat, they should have went to Best Western. Shame on them.

Benningan's, Steak and Ale go bankrupt as casual dining chains suffer {BloggingStocks}
Jul 29th 2008 7:15PM I blogged here before about retailers filing for bankruptcy. Since I work for a company that manages and tracks gift cards, I'm interested in the gift card portion of retailers when they file for bk. I've been following the Bennigan's bk on savvywallet.com. My advice? Spend those gift cards. Only corporate owned bennigans have shutdown, the franchised ones are still open. Not sure if they will be accepting corporate gift cards, but at least Ponderosa steakhouse and Bonanza will still be accepting them because they were once owned by Metromedia.
What's with Steve & Barry's and why should we care? {BloggingStocks}
Jul 21st 2008 9:12PM I commented on the previous post, warning consumers to spend their gift cards. I've been following the bk on savvywallet and I think the reason was they expanded too quick and too soon. It was such a crazy time for retailers. New houses were popping up, retailers had to meet the demands, and then, everything went down hill. Times are tough, and it's a lesson we're all learning. Hopefully they will survive. Then again, I'm not a fan of their store, so it doesn't bother me really. If REI was to go under, I'd would probably die.
Apple had a bad day {TUAW.com}
Jul 14th 2008 7:23PM I bought an iphone on opening day. I blogged about the experience while I was at the store on savvywallet.com. There were some technical difficulties. The line was moving quick, then it stopped. I arrived around 815am, and didn't leave til after 1. It was quite a ordeal. It wasn't Apple fault, it was more on AT&T. Apple did all they could to expedite the flow, but there was only so much they could have fun. In the end. It is totally worth it.
