Bush proposes drastic cuts to PBS budget {AOL TV}
Feb 5th 2007 11:29PM Less than a week ago I was watching a pledge drive on PBS where they said only 7% of their total budget came from "the government" and 50% was viewer donations. Obviously, their point was how important viewer support is.
Now, assuming this person wasn't lying, that means a 25% cut in government funding would mean less than a 2% cut in their total budget.
Given there is no reason for any tax payer funding of PBS anything they get should be pure gravy. A reduction of this amount shouldn't have much of an impact on programming. They need to learn to operate on their on revenue.
Nissan and Infiniti land on list of gay friendly automakers {Autoblog}
Nov 21st 2006 7:13PM So would people that are just roommates be covered? Because it sounds like at Brad's workplace they would be. The term 'domestic patner" just seems too vague to base a policy on but I guess that would depend how a individual company defines it.
Just to be clear I have no problem with companys offering such benefits.
Editor explains retracted NWN2 review {Joystiq}
Nov 8th 2006 12:50AM Well I am little late to this party but I thought I would throw my 2 cents in...
The problem I have with pulling the review is this, if the review had gone the other way, overly praising the game because the reviewer loved the genre, it would not have been pulled.
The review was what it was. Let people read it and judge it for themselves. If they were that concerned about it they could have sought out a reviewer that loved the genre and had him/her post their viewpoint.
Tonight Show accused of favoring Arnold {AOL TV}
Oct 13th 2006 12:35AM "I remember before the last election, California stations didn't show any Schwartzenegger films because of those FCC regulations."
Completely false. The equal time laws do not apply in such a case. Stations that didn't show any of his movies during that time were just being overly cautious.
Also, the equal time rules, as written, clearly do not apply to the Tonight Show. "The rules do not apply to news programs, interview shows and documentaries in which the candidate is not the sole focus."
Schwarzenegger, because of his movie career, has some interest to a national audience even though he is running for a local state office. Remember, the Tonight Show is a national TV show, not a California only show.
Angelides on the other hand would have no interest to anyone outside California, and judging by the pole numbers, there isn't much interest in him in California either. The Tonight Show not putting him on is about ratings, not politics.
