May 24th 2006 11:45AM When it comes down to it, people pretty much choose what car to drive because a particular model is fun to drive and a comfortable fit. Environmental responsibility is the least of anyone's concerns and so far, price of gas is just a cost of driving the car. I cannot see anyone buying a car BECAUSE of this feature, but I sure can see an after market accessory for equipment to override it. And as someone pointed our, it is just something else to go bad. And do not over look the fact BMW is doing this for THEIR benefit, not yours. 'Skipshift' on my Corvette is certainly not there for my benefit and drives me NUTZ. One other thing NOT to overlook is the auto industry cannot force you to buy a car you do not want and the quickest way to realize a change is to tell a dealer why you will not buy his car. That is how passenger side airbags got a 'disable' switch. If you do not like AS/S (which I personally think is a stupid idea), then make that known.
