Pitt Stopped by Louisville in Overtime {Fanhouse NCAA Basketball Blog}
Feb 27th 2011 11:43PM Sleeper teams in the big dance. St. John's, Purdue, UNC, BYU, Vandy, ND, Utah St. & Old Dominion. I don't think a single #1 seed will make the final four with maybe Kansas as an exception. I won't even consider using the word "upset" in this yr's tourney..
Champ Bailey Will Return to Broncos With History-Making Contract {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Feb 23rd 2011 5:49PM In theory, Bailey's performance level has already peaked & his contract represents his past skills/leadership moreso than forward. These guys are sounding a little more appreciative of the mega bucks with the new perspective of cost savings making the rounds. I'm still of the opinion you wouldn't lose 5% of any roster if you cut salaries 50% all around the league..
Carmelo and Amar'e Will Win Championship In New York {Fanhouse NBA Blog}
Feb 22nd 2011 4:24PM So if Denver's only 4 ahead of NY in the win column & they traded away 2/3 of their team for one guy this is supposed to lead to a debate of a championship? Yeah, so now the Knicks are properly equipped to take on the Celtics, Heat & Spurs to win it all, right! Great debate!
Bailing on Oprah Will Dog Michael Vick {Fanhouse - Kevin Blackistone}
Feb 18th 2011 10:11AM This was a wise business decision by Vick's handlers. I can see Vick on the hotseat in front of Oprah & a national audience being drilled for his transgressions & he starts to stutter. His insincerity comes into question & his star power starts to dwindle & melt right before those who started to trust him again. He comes off sounding less intelligent than a fifth grader & even less sincere. There may have been positives for Vick if he could have pulled it all off but his handlers caught themselves & admitted this guy wasn't ready for a one on one primetime expose' into his past. No worries Vick, Oprah won't expose or taunt you for being a no show, you're a brother & you'll get another pass for your inadequacies in life. Keep it on the field dude, it's better that way..
NFL, Union Agree to Federal Mediation in Labor Dispute {Fanhouse NFL Blog}
Feb 18th 2011 9:49AM The NFL is basically a brick & mortar establishment. It relies on tangible sales/marketing to continue revenue streams to supply these players with their enormous salary base. Whereas it's true neither would exist without the other, The establishment itself takes precedent over those who are considered "employees". I won't minimize employees by saying "they're a dime a dozen" but in a sense in our current economic climate that's true. Nothing can go forward without the good faith efforts of the "owners" who control the destiny & business arrangement of the entire league. The owners control the capacity to actually "lockout" the players (employees) to their brick & mortar establishment. Yeah, the NFL is somewhat different because of a required skillset from it's employees but can they be replaced at a much lower expense? You bet they can & deep down they (players) know it. The players are only willing to push the button so far because they know there's no other establishment they can turn to with the notoriety named the NFL. That's a franchise name that the entire world accepts as "professional football". It's the only arrangement set up in major marketing/metro areas to sport their talents. In other words, there is no NFL without the due diligence of the owners & league itself. I don't expect these guys to play for peanuts but their professional attitude diminishes more & more every single year. The skillsets I see on the field (with their attitudes) does not demand a higher pay scale of which they feel entitled to. You can view any corporate entity you like & the results are the same, the upper echelon reaps the major rewards of the company but no other corporation in the world pays it's overall employees like professional sports venues do. There just comes a time when people realize they're gifted & those talents can only draw so much income producing power. I'm of the opinion we've just about reached the saturation point because in the end it's not the owners or corporate sponsors that pay for those escalating salaries, it is "you, the fan" through either higher turnstile prices or the product you see advertised on tv that's tagged for an increase so a one dimensional athlete can make more & more. Sweet & simple, these guys need to get a grip & come to the stark realization their efforts do indeed have a cap on them. Enough is enough, the issue isn't moving forward but what's already taken place in the past fifteen yrs. They've gutted the fatted cow..
Man Arrested for Poisoning Trees at Auburn's Toomer's Corner {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Feb 17th 2011 3:29PM hey wynn, I was merely attempting to point out the symbolic importance of the tree itself to the southern region of which I grew up in & with. Take your argument up with wikipedia on the tree's proper declaration of being deciduous or otherwise:
Quote: Quercus virginiana, also known as the Southern Live Oak, is an evergreen or nearly evergreen oak tree native to the southeastern United States. Though many other species are loosely called live oak, Southern Live Oak is particularly iconic of the Old South.[2]
Glad you made such an important point though, I'll try to be far more careful in the future when making random comments..
Man Arrested for Poisoning Trees at Auburn's Toomer's Corner {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Feb 17th 2011 3:03PM Buckeye, these trees are southern live oaks (quercus virginiana). They're beautiful evergreens symbolic of the entire southeast that adorned plantations pre-dating the civil war. If Al of Dadesville thought he was merely hurting Auburn tradition he's sadly mistaken. He took a shot at the entire southeast & one of the most notable trees in this entire region. I'm from S. Carolina & our lower coastline wouldn't be recognizable without the live oak. Al's not a very big thinker & the Alabama fans should tar & feather his ignorant hide to let Auburn know that meddling with tradition only goes so far. This guy attacked the beauty associated with what I'd like to observe as still warm hospitality throughout an entire region. love us or hate us, the south remains special in that regard to the people who have legitimate stakes in this area..
Taking Down Toomer's Trees Only Latest Insanity in Alabama-Auburn Rivalry {Fanhouse NCAA Football Blog}
Feb 17th 2011 1:14PM I'm not sure cancelling the Iron Bowl is the answer but some form of discipline or notice of civility needs to be served to bring the rivalry down a notch or so in Alabama. Here in SC, the rivalry between Clemson/SC is just as intense & culminated into the brawl of all brawls back in '04 & the universities said "enough is enough". Cancelling the bowl games that yr. of both teams at least brought the thought of negative actions have consequences that go beyond the playing field. Intensity & fanaticism aren't conducive to a healthy rivalry when crazies take over. Those trees in Auburn took root only a short time after our nation came to grips with who we really were, now they're possibly destroyed by one assailant's actions. I find great irony in destroying tradition at another's expense. Those trees represented the south in it's entirety & the mindless singular person who waged that destruction shot himself in the foot as well. You may kill the beautiful green awning temporarily but don't screw with tradition. A stunt like this only serves to make your side look disrespectful of what the competition stood for all those yrs. those tree's roots sank deeper into the earth..
Cavs Stun Lakers, Avenge 55-Point Loss {Fanhouse NBA Blog}
Feb 17th 2011 10:42AM Gah, you people are dumb! Follow the chain of events closely over the past week. Lakers are cruising against above average teams on a long road trip & all is well. Cavs break their 26 game losing streak to Clippers then by the luck of the draw (sic) play the Wizards allowing them to break their streak & get pounded with Bryon Scott making excuses the Cavs "don't play with a sense of urgency" over & over. So the Wizards go back on the road & resume their same stink game by getting pounded by the Magic & then we have revenge time with the Lakers coming in wounded after Jackson makes the "I'm embarrassed" acknowledgement for the Lakers two game slide. Motivation anyone? Nah, that's not enough so the Lakers lay 11 pts. on the road to a team they simply destroyed a month ago & the choreographed stage is set again. What do you do for an encore when you beat a team earlier by 55? You lose of course & get the naysayers all lined up in the guessing game. You can't write a script better than this unless Nicholson sitting in the front row or Spike Lee have their hands in the production. There is no way, no how the Lakers get beat in a legitimate game by a team that just dropped 26 in a row!! How dumb do you all get?
Albert Pujols, Cardinals Fail to Reach Deal {Fanhouse MLB Blog}
Feb 17th 2011 1:38AM Let's see, a player demanding over $25MM a yr. into the twilight of his career & over one thousand six hundred games into the future. That's a lot of wear & tear on those ligaments & cartilage into the unforseeable future. If being fair minded ever once took precedence over greed, there should be a peak performance age stated by MLB that contracts couldn't run beyond & extensions beyond that would be short term based on current performance & health issues. In the real world if you're going blind or cripple your employer doesn't offer extended benefits because you did a good job in the past & we sure as hell didn't make $25MM a yr. to compensate us either..
