Connecticut Family Ends Up in ER After Eating Poisonous Mushrooms Growing in Backyard {AOL Real Estate}

I agree with you about "old mushroom hunters", but I'm not sure about what you've heard about bugs.

I have seen many bug holes in amanitas.
And, in my 59 years, I have seen a bunch of amanitas.

C'mon Doc.
You are not much of a doctor and you are doing the general public a great disservice.
Many varieties of mushrooms found in fields are perfectly safe and delicious.

When I was in Grad school in the 1970s, I had a good mushroom textbook and found a wonderful patch of shaggy-mane mushrooms in a field in my thesis area.
They were easily distinguishable, had a mild flavor, and were a great addition to eggs and toast for breakfast.
I also dried pounds of them and added them to soups in the winter.

And, I found a patch of the big, bread-like mushrooms in another field.
(I don't remember their name and cannot find my mushroom book.)
They grow as individual clumps and have no obvious stems or caps.
Sliced like a 3/4-inch-thick ham steak and pan-fried in butter, they were heavenly.
Although not necessarily nutritious, they would make quite a meal, especially when accompnied by trout or salmon I had caught locally.
(They were better for me than eating junk fast food.)

Hey....., I was very poor and relied on nature to supplement my existence.

That makes no sense.

Most commercial mushroom farms grow them on the ground.
The soil is mixed with sterilized cow manure to speed and enhace the growth.
The sterilization is to kill any spores of "bad" mushrooms.

The farms are often in underground mines.

If you are a writer, you are a piss-poor one.

You don't know how to capitalize, punctuate, or separate thoughts into different paragraphs.
You also ramble on about things that have nothing to do with the topic at hand.

What about the US government that let them in the country in the first place?
And....., don't forget the US company that taught them how to fly these planes.

Someone (CIA?) obviously didn't do a thorough background check.

Crane Topples Onto Newark, N.J., Home While Removing Tree From Yard {AOL Real Estate}

Aug 18th 2012 3:15PM To Bryan:

Years ago, I visited a job site at an abandoned oil-field site north of Los Angeles.
The land owners were trying to clean up the old pits.

A backhoe fell into a pit that was being dug out.
A bigger trackhoe was brought in to remove the smaller hoe and it also fell into the pit.

Talk about a circus of errors!
It finally took a big crain to get the hoes out.
