Readers React to McDonald's Oatmeal False Advertising {That's Fit}
Feb 26th 2011 3:12PM I buy a box of homemade oatmeal for less than NcD's charges. The company loses an extreme amount of goodwill with this charlatanism.
TRANSLOGIC 41: CES 2011, GM EN-V {AOL Autos - Translogic}
Feb 14th 2011 12:29AM o The car would not work in any state after a snow or ice storm.
o I live within 7 miles of every store necessary for food and pharmaceuticals.
o The speed limit varies from 30 mph to 45 mph.
o This car would be hazardous on the road, for the shoulders are narrow.
o Other autos would blow the vehicle off course, cause a roll over or fatal accident to the driver of the sardine can vehicle.
o It would be necessary to have another auto for longer trips.
o General Electric has received billions of taxpayer funds to develop charging stations. What cost per charge? Time required? Locations?
o The Tesla is a fabulous vehicle but out of the price range for most individuals. Some of the same problems associated with charging costs.
o Electric cars have an effect on the environment and the pocketbook.
o Coal or oil would be required to produce electricity to charge the vehicle.
o What percentage would one's electric bill increase?
Fun idea, but little practicality and little or no environmental protection.
Leading Scientists Say Airport Full Body Scanners Easily Duped {AOL Travel News}
Dec 17th 2010 9:42PM Every time some new contraption is introduced to be the "Be All and End All" to prevent weapons and/or explosives smuggling aboard aircraft, the TSA runs to Congress for billions of appropriations dollars. It never ceases to amaze me how our neighbors who run the federal government think throwing money at problems solves them.
The least expensive and most effective method of preventing such activity is to adopt Israeli protocols. Looking someone in the eye and observing body language shows more than any radioactive photograph ever will.
Write your members of Congress to stop this madness!
The Peter Principle: Why Incompetent People Get Promoted {AOL Jobs}
Dec 3rd 2010 10:56PM My first boss in a worldwide oil corporation which is now merged with another was an example of the Peter Principle. He was not management material, arrogant, egotistical, narcissistic and took personal credit for each of my major accomplishments. After saving the corporation millions of $$ in tax deductions by single handedly stopping legislation which literally appeared overnight, he reported to his superiors that he had to intervene to "save the day." He had absolutely nothing to do with the matter, for he had not one iota of skill in that arena.
I was invited to dinner at his home, along with a co-worker and he treated his spouse as though she was a servant. "May I serve the apppetizer, dear? The salad? Main course? Dessert?" It was December and the house was so cold, despite my merino wool dress, I had to ask to for my coat to wear around my shoulders. A trip to the "powder room" revealed a coating of ice in the commode!
I was preceded by two professionals who had similar experiences and were promoted and transferred to other offices. In less than 18 months, our superiors promoted me to the home office, leaving my boss with one person. Three months later, he was promoted and transferred. He was not replaced.
Stunned, my former boss was stripped of his managerial position and moved from a center city office to a refinery, never to manage again. He retired a few years later.
Katie Featherston Reveals All! (or Not) at 'Paranormal Activity 2' Midnight Screening {Moviefone Blog}
Oct 23rd 2010 12:06AM This type of movie makes a mockery of paranormal documentaries/programs which feature real, non actor, serious professional paranormal investigators. Sy Fy's "Ghost Hunters," "Destination Truth" and A&E's "Paranormal State" are dedicated to seeking whether spirits long past from this life truly exist. The producers of these movies laugh all the way to the bank.
Bristol Palin Says She Hasn't Lost Weight on 'Dancing With the Stars' {AOL TV}
Oct 9th 2010 2:56AM I do not read these ridiculous types of articles but, saw the headline and had to comment. Who reads this drivel and who cares whether Bristol Palin lost weight dancing? The reporter who asked the question is an idiot, not to mention the assignment editor.
No wonder less than 50% of voting age American citizens, especially the young, cannot recognize a picture of the vice president, or Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, John Boehner or the governor of their own state. Much less name the member of Congress for their district, or their state senator or representative. Oh, but they WILL know whether some non important public figure lost weight dancing on a TV show.
So many people who vote do not know the issues, much less the names of the candidates. Registered voters are swayed by catchy phrases, outright lies told by one candidate against the other, subjective reporting or what candidate is better looking. Along with the privilege to vote comes the responsibility to research the issues and the positions of the candidates in order to cast an informed vote.
Tom Cruise, 5-foot-7, Same Height as Cameron Diaz, 5-foot-9, at 'Knight & Day' Tokyo Premiere - and She Wore Four-Inch Heels! {Stylelist}
Sep 30th 2010 8:10PM My Daddy was 5' 7" and he was 10 feet tall to me. He, nor his family, was vain or embarassed about his height and was never teased about it. You are what you are. It is what is in your heart and soul that truly counts. He never met a person he did not like and everyone who knew him loved him.
7 Cringe-Worthy Interview Questions to Avoid Asking {AOL Jobs}
Sep 28th 2010 10:00PM I never had an interview that required asking about salary or benefits because it was always mentioned by the potential employer. Discussion of salary and benefits is rarely omitted because the potential employer has a salary amount to offer. If the applicant's previous salary and any salary expectations are higher than the employer can offer, the interview can end quickly without wasting the potential employee's time. It can also become an opportunity to expand the potential employer list by asking whether the interviewer knows of other companies which may offer similar positions.
Texas Community Mourns Quarterback Whose Last Pass Was a Touchdown {Fanhouse Main}
Sep 21st 2010 10:07PM Robert, you may have missed the report that there was a medically trained woman in the stands who immediately ran down to the sidelines to treat that sweet young man.
Defibrilators which are easy to use by anyone are available at a reasonable cost of $1500.00. Every sports department at high schools and colleges should have at least one for emergency use at every sporting event for use in emergency situations. Because autopsy reports are not yet available and can be inconclusive as to cause of death, this equipment may not have helped. Nevertheless, they should be required equipment.
He is now in our Heavenly Father's loving embrace and will be reunited with his family and friends some day. I prayed to our Lord that there are football teams in Heaven, so that this promising young man will be able to continue to play the game he so enjoyed.
School Shopping List: Pencils, Notebooks and, Oh Yeah, Your Own Toilet Paper {ParentDish}
Aug 18th 2010 8:07PM President Obama's $26 billion dollar union payoff, which includes teachers, is one of the many reasons why schools are begging parents who already pay skyrocketing property taxes for basic student needs. Next, schools will require students to clean kitchens, classrooms and bathrooms.
Give your thanks to liberal progressives who are robbing our children of the education we received. I read an article on AOL today stating college freshmen do not know how to write in cursive and cannot spell correctly due to text speak on their mobile phones.
Our students are not being taught how to seek knowledge. Their heads are being filled with rewritten history, liberal social policy, and the theory of collective, not personal salvation. The president told a graduating class this spring that we may only be saved through what we do as a collective, not as individuals.
I recently spoke with a senior high school student who was cashiering at the local Walgrens. He told me he was not taught any history prior to WWII and little of that. He knows nothing of what is contained in the US Constitution and Bill of Rights, but has been brainwashed into thinking it is an old, outdated document which can and should be changed by the societal beliefs of those in power.
When people know nothing of their God given inalienable rights they are ripe for takeover by a government which will destroy this democratic republic founded by millions of heroic Americans who gave and continue to give their blood and treasure to protect.
Wake up! You have a right to know what is being taught in school today and to change it. Please get involved in your child's education and stop this progressive destruction of all we hold dear.
