Va. GOP Chair Compares Black People to Dogs on Welfare {BV Black Spin}

Oct 24th 2010 1:33PM First of all let's start refraining from calling each other names. Understand that words have POWER, and how do we choose to use them is very important. I wish those who choose to write comments would use a dictionary or spell check to make what they have to say more clear. Obviously the stereotype of the "lazy black man" has been perpetuated since slavery. Hard working people do not like to be called lazy. I say the black man and woman are tired, not lazy. How would you like to be the decendants of people who worked hundreds of years for no pay. After slavery most of our people are still the lowest paid. We're tired, not lazy. Some have just given up under the heavy weight they have been forced to bear. They are tired not lazy. The only reason welfare exists is because hard earned money amassed by our government off the backs of slaves has not been forwarded to the rightful heirs of these funds. Welfare is a trickle down answer to what is owed to the heirs of former slave ancestors. The same problem with the Native Americans, cheated out of their land by unjust people. We all know the story. Our current economic condition is a direct correlation of past injustices. Look how long the black farmers have been waiting for what the government owes them as a result of injustice. Let's start telling the truth so we can be free to solve some of the racial issues. If we don't work together, we will all go down together. Repectfully Charlene L. Mozee-Harris

MSNBC's Tamron Hall Uses Sister's Murder to Speak Out Against Domestic Violence {BV Black Spin}

Oct 17th 2010 2:19PM I feel a strong connection to Tamron Hall since hearing the story of her sister being murdered. In 1974 my twin sister Charlotte was murdered by her second husband, after she had seperated from him. Unlike Tamron's family, we know he did it and he was convicted for "second degree murder". The insult was he only served about four years and if he has not died, currently walking the streets of our town. Their child was 10 months old at the time and never remembered his mother. I raised this child along with my own four children. I know my life and my family was changed that day. I lost trust in people. I have forgiven that person because of my faith in Jesus Christ but it took time. Young women trust your family when getting involved with a man. Introduce them and listen to opinions of those more experienced than you. Of course no one can predict those capable of murder but some people are just not good for you even if they are not capable of murder. They can murder your dreams and hope for your life. God Bless You Charlene L. M. Harris

Alicia Keys & Swizz Beatz Welcome First Child, a Son, Egypt Daoud Dean {BV Newswire}

Oct 17th 2010 1:40PM I wish Alicia and her new baby and husband well. I am concerned that a lovely talented young woman has to begin her marriage and motherhood with a man who has three other children. Somehow it seems unfair to start such milestones at this unbalanced position. A man who already has three children does not feel the experience the same as someone who has no children. She will have to share time with these other children and other woman or women. Of course she made the choice to get involved with such a man; I just hope she gave it a serious thought beforehand. Step-children are a challenge for experienced people, and to start your life like this causes me some sadness for Alicia. My prayers are with you because with God, all things are possible. Respectfully Charlene L. M. Harris

Racist 90-Year-Old C-SPAN Caller Asks Why 'Colored People' Aren't More Grateful for 'Free Everything' {BV Black Spin}

Oct 14th 2010 2:04PM This just shows how far we still have to go to tell the story of African-American's journey in the United States. This lady believes what she said is true. God Bless her. She is ninety so the likelihoood of her changing is very slim, but we must help younger people who have some of the same ideas. Those who profited from slavery, held up wages earned for a day of work, which means money is still owed to decendants of our slave ancestors. If African-Americans were getting everything "free" and we know we are not, I would venture to say deduct it from our lost wages. Because I have made a vow to try to love the unlovable, I will forgive this misinformed senior citizens and ask God to shed some light into heart before she transitions to the next life. Respectfully Charlene L. M. Harris

Nelly, Who Made You a Love Expert? {BV on Love}

Oct 10th 2010 2:10PM Obviously this person did not read the article before commenting on what Nelly said, and how unfortunate that this person seems so angry. This person seems to have a very slanted view on black men and the plight of black women. This person is appearing to defend black women but either this person is envious of Nelly, has had unfavorable relationships with someone or needs to read fully what Nelly really said. Also the title is very misleading but maybe that was designed to get readers. It is what caught my eye. I think Nelly is a pleasant,caring young man. God Bless Us All Charlene L.M. Harris

Less Than Half of African Americans Believe Eddie Long is Gay {BV Black Spin}

Oct 2nd 2010 3:22PM I don't know if Eddie Long is gay, but it appears that he may have given into temptation of this nature. I hope that if he did he will use this moment in his life to lift up the true teachings of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior as it relates to foregiveness. He is a likely candidate to deny himself and point to the Author and Finisher of our faith. It is Jesus who died for his and our sins, not Eddie Long. The Scriptures teach us "know the truth, and the truth will set us free", it is time for all human kind to set themselves free by the teachings in the Holy Bible. This indiscretion is no greater than any other and has been paid for by the Precious Blood of Jesus Christ. These so called leaders are mere men disguising themselves as god. All things must be revealed in the "last days". Search the Scriptures for in them we have Eternal Life. Respectfully Charlene L.M. Harris

Solange Knowles Covers Fashizblack Mag in Afro-Chic Style {BV on Style}

Sep 23rd 2010 11:53AM I like the look on Solange. It's refreshing. Hey we don't have to be mean to voice our opinion. Grow up young people and old people. Lets love one another. This is not that serious. Charlene L.M. Harris

Alice Walker's Estranged Daughter Makes Startling Revelations About 'Color Purple' Author {BV Newswire}

Sep 21st 2010 1:33PM As a mother with a grown-up daughter who is estranged at this time, I understand the dynamics of this mother-daughter delimma. First of all it's always the mother's fault because this relationship is of the highest order. Children know that their mother's love them more than any one except our Creator and it is safe to blame your mother for your inadequacies. Now with Rebecca, she took her mothers last name in order to capitalize on her fame. Many children of famous achievers have done that. Yet they don't quite reach the height of their parents and unlike a previous writer who said the mother is jealous, I believe Rebecca is jealous of her mother Alice. Sometimes it is the other way around. I also agree that if anyone perceives that a relationship is toxic, then they should extract themselves from that situation. Sometimes we humans hurt each other unintentionally yet the damage is done. High achieving people sometimes are distant from those they should love and care about. Some working mothers with regular 9-5 jobs feel they are neglecting their children but don't know what to do about it. Let me conclude by saying "forgiveness" is the only tool we humans have to allow us to move on to a better day. Rebecca forgive your mother for now you are a mother and you may perpetuate the path that you have experienced. Break the cycle if you dare. Respectfully Charlene L. M.Harris

Did Elle Magazine Lighten Gabby Sidibe's Skin? {BV on Style}

Sep 19th 2010 12:58PM Amen to that!

Did Elle Magazine Lighten Gabby Sidibe's Skin? {BV on Style}

Sep 19th 2010 12:53PM Stop making a big deal of everything, this is a magazine shoot. We all attempt to look our best when taking a picture. If it's at a family gathering or a professional studio. Lighting can make the difference as well as makeup versus no makeup. I guess some controversy brings out the best and worst in us all, but this is a small matter in the whole scheme of what is truly important. Whether Gabby has been lightened or not she is still a black woman. I am proud she is on the cover of Elle. There was a time in the recent pass she would not have made the cover.
