Mel Gibson's Long, Hateful History {PopEater}
Jul 11th 2010 11:54PM STOP the judgemental attitudes!
Unless your life has been perfect in in every way and you are Politically Correct, then you have no business placing judgement on Mel Gibson unless you have walked in his shoes. If you want to sound off about something, how about kicking some butt of these liberal socialists that are trying to destroy this country. Leave this man (Mel) alone. I would bet your lives a not much better and that you are guilty of more than you throw at Gibson. You people all seem to enjoy climbing on a bandwagon and yelling about subjects you have little or no real knowlege about. You are like Cattle in a barnyard. You go MOO because all the other cows go MOO.
Leonard Nimoy: Living Long and Retiring {PopEater}
Apr 21st 2010 9:50PM It has been said many times only I will say it to the ACTOR Leonard Nimoy, not Spock. Leonard, "I wish you to 'Live Much Longer, and Prosper' in your retirement". Now is your time to go fishing or write some more memoirs if you wish. Just go to the coffee shop in the mornings and have a Mocha or whatever and enjoy the fact that we all loved you for playing Mr. Spock but mostly honor you for just being Leonard Nimoy. God Bless and enjoy. Bob S.
Neal McDonough Sacked By ABC for Refusing Sex With Virginia Madsen {PopEater}
Apr 2nd 2010 10:41PM I dont think Mr McDonaugh should be thought of as a non cooperating actor. I think he is within his rights as any actor shoud be to set some limits relating to sex and or Romantic scenes which are against his specific belief, religious or personal.
Can you imagine Charlton Heston (Moses) doing a sex scene? It was not his specialty. Not only this kind of thinking, but Hollywood is up to it's Rear End in Porn Stars.
If you got to do the sex thing in a movie, get one of the Porn types to do it. Costs the studio less money than for a respected actor to do it. Dont get me wrong, I sometimes enjoy the sex scenes in some movies, but defend the right of any actor who doesn't want to do it. Neal McDonaugh obviously feels some respect for his family and his faith in holding high what he feels is important. I support his right to do this. Hollywood film makers can go take a hike. Bob S.

Hummer plant coming back online to fill 849-unit order? {Autoblog}
Mar 10th 2010 10:16AM Hey you Hummer Haters. I have an H3 Hummer, and I can tell you it four wheels and tows better than most of the Big Gas Burning Trucks selling out there right now, on less gas.
I get a solid 19 miles per gallon on my Hummer.
Now I agree the V8 and especially the H1 and H2 HUmmers burn hell out of gas.
But dont knock the whole brand!
The H3 with the 5 cylinder works out great. And NO it is not the Japanese "Prius" which I guarantee you, that you dont want someone to hit you in while you have your family in those little tin monsters. Prious is also having runaway accelerator problems.
No such defects or nonsense in the American Made Hummer. If you dont like Hummer owners either, well I think you are just jealous that you cant have one. Bob S.
People in Glass Houseboats: A Wave of the Future? {Rented Spaces}
Mar 6th 2010 10:15PM After my Tirade describing the differences between Houseboats, Boat Houses, Floating Homes/Houses, I forgot to say that I believe her design would be great for a FLOATING HOME.
Floating Homes dont need to be Seaworthy in the general context as with a cruising boat. I think her design would be great to live on and could be floated using Poly Tub Floats, or even concrete floatation. Nothing says Floating homes have to be Square or Rectangular. Long as it can be floated shape is of no consequence. She is thinking out of the box, and that will mark her success in making this design a reality. Now if you can just get the Coastal Commission and the Port People to approve of more Floating Home marinas in our anchorages, harbors and bays. Good Luck on that one. Thanks, Bob S.
People in Glass Houseboats: A Wave of the Future? {Rented Spaces}
Mar 6th 2010 10:05PM I would like to educate a few of you regarding what you are calling house boats. The boats that drive around places like Lake Powell, Shasta Lake and many other small lakes in the ocuntry are powered with outboards or inboard/outboard configurations. Those vessels are called HOUSEBOATS! The Sausalito reeference to Houseboats is actually incorrect. The ones people are living on are called FLOATING HOMES, not HOUSEBOATS. Floating Homes generally have no engine to power them with. They are not what might be considered as seaworthy as most of them are floating on Styrofoam Blocks or Styrofoam filled Poly Tubs. They would never make it through waters where the waves were more than a foot in height. They would come apart if anyone tried to take one past the breakwater, and most are not SEAWORTHY! Houseboats on the other hand are relatively seaworthy, or should I say LakeWorthy. Saltwater is not good to Aluminum and Plastic constructed Houseboats, but they are great for cruising the lake. Boathouse is an animal of a different color. Boathouses, are designed to house a boat. They are not mobile, no engine, and not seaworthy with exception they need to maintain the floating ability. Boathouses, usually have two floating sides (port and Starboard Floats) Styrofoam floatation or Poly tub floatation.
So now everybody knows there is a difference between the THREE NOMENCLATURES that are referred to in comments and the article.
HOUSEBOAT- Cruising Vessel
BOATHOUSE- A floating Garage to put a boat in.
FLOATING HOME/HOUSE- A place you can live on the water, but not go anywhere.
Hope this helps educate those who didnt know.
Why am I so smart? Ive been dealing with these things for over 55 years.
SmackDown: Did Air Traffic Dad Really Do Anything So Wrong? {ParentDish}
Mar 4th 2010 10:17PM JFKCAPTAIN: With all due respect I disagree with you Sir.
You probably missed the part on the transmission where the kid told the Jet Blue aircraft, "Clear for takeoff" That is a bit more significant than and handoff to departure.
As I stated in my earlier discussion, who knows the Instruction for Clearance to takeoff was not from another radio source other than the tower? You and I know, as pilots, that duplication of transmitters to transmit on FAA frequencies is not only a possibility, but has happen before. Certainly, a childs voice giving such a clearance would be a bit worrysome. I would have my FO call the tower to confirm the Takeoff Clearance before releasing brakes and throttles forward. I think that any ambiguous or suspicious transmission should be questioned at all times before we proceed. But that is me. You fly it yourway, and I'll fly it mine.
I am reminded of the Russian AeroFlot Pilot, many years ago, who let his son on the flightdeck to fly the aircraft by hand. No auto pilot was on! The Pilot and his FO went to the blue room while the 12 year old was flying the plane. I believe what happened next does not need to be said. Kids and speaking for ATC and Piloting Commercial aircraft just do not mix.
Happy Landings. Bob S.
SmackDown: Did Air Traffic Dad Really Do Anything So Wrong? {ParentDish}
Mar 4th 2010 9:44PM The way I see it is somewhat a split decision.
(1)I don't think the controller used good judgement in his decision to let the kids talk on the radio.
(2) I believe this will tighten and limit just who gets to be in the traffic control towers uring operations from now on...as it should be.
(3) I think the controller should be issued a written warning on his record, but should not be fired. He did not do this with malice in mind.
(4) Now, as a Pilot, I only have the following concern. Many people can duplicate radios to transmit on FAA designated frequencies.
When a pilot hears a childs voice saying "Jet Blue 226, clear for take off,' how does the pilot know if this is a legal instructiion from his controller? The pilots that responded "Roger, 226 clear for takeoff", should have in my opinion questioned the tower. I would have not taken a kids voice as a safe bet to clear me for takeoff! I would have the first officer call the tower on frequency and verify the clearance to take off. When we had an autoritative voice proceed with the clearance, the throttles would go forward and brakes released, knowing we had a valid instruction. Can anybody disagree with this? I would ask fellow pilots to respond. Bob S.
