FairPlay: coming to a classroom near you? {TUAW.com}
Sep 23rd 2006 6:07PM I don't think there's anything wrong with academic institutions wanting to protect their lectures and other materials. Why should they be compelled to provide these things for free? As someone above said, they would just be placing boundaries on the content, not limiting access. You pay, you get the content. You don't pay, you're locked out.
AMD's virtual tradeshow experience {Download Squad}
Sep 18th 2006 9:24AM I think that virtual tradeshow sounds like a fantastic idea! I wish more companies would get involved with something like that. They could definitely reach more people than they would with a traditional booth setup, so I think it would be well worth their time to do it.
Sushi bet: digg will compensate users this year. {The Jason Calacanis Weblog}
Sep 13th 2006 6:42AM Wow, this whole situation seems more and more like a soap opera with each passing day. I agree that Digg will probably end up paying contributors "in some form" sometime soon, so I guess there's really no bet to take!
Microsoft cuts Xbox 360 by $85 in Japan {Engadget}
Sep 8th 2006 7:16AM I agree that introducing Xbox 360 at this price isn't going to make a lot of difference now. MS isn't viewed as a gaming company in Japan; a lot of my friends think of them as pretty much software only and therefore aren't too keen on trying other products (like the Xbox).
NBC turns to Pink for football anthem {AOL TV}
Sep 1st 2006 12:03AM Is there anyone in Hollywood that *doesn't* lean left?? As far as Pink goes, I don't know much about her music. I'll hold off on judging it until I actually hear the song. I didn't think Hank Williams Jr. was a good choice for the MNF theme, but that song grew on me after a while...
Aiptek's MyNote, for Tablet PC-lovers on a budget {Engadget}
Aug 29th 2006 9:54PM For $144, I think I'd give that thing a try. There are some meetings where I need to copy down drawings or charts, which I obviously can't do on my laptop. This device would certainly do the trick though.
Own Your Own Celebrity Seat {Luxist}
Aug 29th 2006 9:00PM I think this is getting into the territory of the truly creepy. I wouldn't buy a piece of furniture simply because a celeb touched it or sat on it for a few minutes. Wow. They're just people like everyone else...
24, My Name is Earl, other HD favorites pick up Emmys {Engadget HD}
Aug 28th 2006 8:33PM It was great to see 24 and Kiefer Sutherland finally get the recognition that they deserve. I thought Season 5 was great, and can't wait to see what the producers and writers have in mind for Season 6!
Too bad about Grey's Anatomy. I thought for sure either Sandra Oh or Chandra Wilson would take home a statue for their work. Both are simply fantastic.
Many people are asking: what's wrong with NBC? {AOL TV}
Aug 28th 2006 8:31PM I didn't make the connection between the opening skit and the Kentucky plane crash either. In fact, it only came up when I started reading blogs by people condemning the decision to go ahead with the skit. I don't think NBC was being insensitive at all, and like another poster said, I doubt anyone who was personally affected by the recent tragedy was watching the Emmys.
Deju vu: consumers buying low-priced, quality, Korean cars in Japan {Autoblog}
Aug 27th 2006 7:44AM I don't know where sp got that 5,000 car figure, but if that's accurate, then I would hardly call that making "inroads in Japan." I don't think I've ever seen a Hyundai on the road in all of my years in Japan, and really doubt that Toyota et al have anything to worry about (in Japan anyway).
