Viper app allows remote start of your car with iPhone {Autoblog}

Oct 13th 2009 4:39PM You know, that's a legitimate concern. I wonder how they address that. I remote start from a fob always has to be in range...I would assume this has no range issues.

For example, I can monitor my garage door from my iPhone, but while it's technically possible (in fact easy) to also control it, I find that to be unsafe without being able to see it.

Sonos CR200 review {Engadget}

Jul 28th 2009 11:19AM I'm going to have to agree with the Squeezebox solution on this one. It does in fact do the same thing for cheaper...that said, is the audio quality the same or is the interface quite as slick? (plus the I'd really, really love a SB Player that had an audio in option. Are you listening Logitech?) I have no idea and I don't care...for me, the fact that I can have 2 controllers and 4 players for the cost of the Sonos 1 controller and 2 player system made the difference to me.

PICS + VIDEO: Mansory Vincero costs $1 million... on top of the price of a Bugatti Veyron {Autoblog}

Jul 17th 2009 4:09PM I think I just threw up a little in my mouth. Do people seriously think that LED rope lights on everything make it *better*?

Yamaha's MusicCAST2 wireless distributed music system gets one better {Engadget}

Jun 19th 2009 7:58AM Or, of course, you can go the SqueezeBox route. Duet has a controller that can control *ANY* squeezebox, as well as an iPhone/Touch app that's second to none. Oh, and the zone players can be had for $150. Maybe not 100% as slick as these solutions but WAY cheaper. Of course, spend your money as you see fit.

New car customers stuck with old loans when dealers don't pay off the trade-in {Autoblog}

Feb 3rd 2009 10:13AM Maybe you don't get it...lets say you take out a 3 year loan...2 years later you decide to buy a new car. Assuming you have equity (e.g.: loan = $5,000, car value is $10,000) you are putting money down on your new car, but still need to pay off the remaining balance on the loan.

Are you proposing that buying a new asset before the old one is fully paid off is a bad idea? How many people pay their 30 year mortgage before buying a new house. Same deal, different asset.

Shelby's amazing Aero EV: 0 to 60 in 2.5 seconds, 10 minute recharge {Engadget}

Jan 27th 2009 9:03AM There *is* a Shelby Aero, just not the electric. Therefore pics are likely of a gas version.

That said, I also call bullshit on the 10 minute charge. A 220 volt circuit at 100 amps is going to be 22,000watts. By my calculations charging for 10 minutes gives you 3,666 kWh. Feeding even a very efficient motor that generates 1000hp isn't going to get you very far on that.

WiFi-enabled Crestron touchpanel aids in stargazing {Engadget}

Oct 1st 2008 12:31PM First off, awesome. As someone who has done a fair amount of home automation work in my own house, that's fabulous.

Second, that installer is a genius. He spent 500+ hours programming coordinates. Lets assume that's $75 an hour (my guess is more like 150 though). The installer charged this guy $37,500. Oh, and he's still working on it.

So, in a nutshell, this "astronomer" had someone program his fancy telescope so he can press a button and see the feed from his telescope on his TV. Or take a picture. Wow.

Sonos gets official on ZP120 and ZP90, but no new controller {Engadget}

Aug 5th 2008 7:33AM You want something cheaper? Get a Squeezebox Duet. Does almost everything this does in a much cheaper package. $400 for the remote and 1 player, and then additional players are $150. Plus, you can write your own apps for the remote. Bonus!

Of course, YMMV.

Finnishing Touch: Cosworth-powered Ford Model A {Autoblog}

Jan 29th 2008 8:36AM If you read the build (it's on the internet) the wheels are cast AL. And to make it the ultimate sleeper, its got a misfire circuit that you can turn on. It goes from sputter sputter to rally car zoom at the flip of a switch.

I'm thinking dragging a dumb ass 17 yr old kid in his Mustang and kicking his ass must never get old.
