Years ago, when I first started leaving my dog in the house alone for a work day, I'd come home to find VCR tapes chewed to bits and books destroyed. She was angry because she was alone all day. We altered our schedule so she wasn't home alone as much and the behavior stopped. And she certainly never did these things when we were home with her.
Dogs most definitely exhibit undesirable behaviors when they're upset.

Jan 29th 2011 9:27AM Me too. My cat definitely gets jealous when she hears me talking on the phone. She'll come to me and rub up against my leg and meow and sit by my feet and stare at me. If I ignore her, she'll misbehave to get my attention - like scratching her claws on the furniture or the carpet.
