The Country's Biggest Tourist Trap: South of the Border {Gadling}
Jul 18th 2011 4:29PM Totally agree with you, run down, dingy, seen better days and a total waste of time. Back 40 years ago, driving to Florida every Christmas to see my Grandparents, we would always stop here, to eat and buy a few trinkets.
Those were the days of long car trips in my parents station wagon. But flying is only 2 hours to Florida from Washington DC and we have not driven in 30 years. We have also taken the Auto train a few times from Lorton Va, which is about 40 minutes from us.
We did drive to Hilton Head about 3 years ago, and pulled in to South of the Border for old times sake, and pulled out again, about 5 minutes later, it looked like no money had gone into that place in decades.
They had great signs, but the place did not live up to the hype.
Mom Says Son's Life Was Saved Because of Facebook {ParentDish}
Jul 15th 2011 3:12PM People turn to Facebook for everything, gone are the days when your neighbors came over if something was wrong or your relatives drove over quickly. Today most women work, as I do, and my relatives have all moved far away to retirement communities.
Not that I like it, but Facebook, cell phone pictures, twitter, U tube have replaced your best friend or your grandmother or Aunt rushing over to help.
Pal: 'Heartbroken' Hef Thought Crystal Was the One {PopEater}
Jun 15th 2011 2:21PM Why is this even news. Hefner is 85 years old and looks like he should be in a nursing home. Why can't he just accept his age and stop running around with "fake blondes with fake boobs"
Of course some of these girls are using him. Do you think anyone with any intelligence, age 22 would be marrying an 85 year old man that wants to stay indoors with his house coat and pajamas all the time watching movies.
But he is using them also. to promote his brand and his image. They should send Hef away. If an 85 year old man fooling around with girls young enough to be his granddaughters is Playboys' image, then this is very out of date and sad.
My son, who is 30 has not read Playboy in 15 years. There are much better "men"s magazines out there that are more hip and current with his age. None of his friends get Playboy either.
Playboy is a fading brand, and when Hef dies, the whole shrinking empire will probably fold. Personally, I think the girls should get on with their lives and forget Hef.
To the person who wrote Hef's fiancee is a gold digger, how can that be. One, he does not have much money left, two, if she was after his money, why would she leave him, and third, she wants to have a career and be active, not stuck at home with him.
Pat Sajak Sorry For Unleashing Keith Olbermann on America {PopEater}
Nov 12th 2010 2:02PM Personally, I think you all don't get it.
Keith, is a "performer". He will say or do ANYTHING to get ratings. The more he rambles on, the madder people get at his tirades, results in more viewers. Ratings mean more money for him at contract renewal time.
He probably laughs when he reads all the utube, twitter, articles, blogs about him. It does NOT matter if his network is owned by Atila the Hun or Mother Mary, as long as the ratings are there, he will have a career.
Was watching old reruns of shows on the game show network, and they had a Hollywood Squares on from about 15 or 20 years ago.
Guess who was one of the squares, Keith, from when he was a sportscaster. He was very different back then.................
The whole suspension, firing, whatever you wish to call it, was just a publicity ploy, and it worked.
Matthew McConaughey's Sexy New Dolce & Gabbana Fragrance Ad Campaign {Stylelist (Main)}
Oct 14th 2010 12:03PM I think it is ironic that Matthew is more the outdoors, shirtless and windlblown type of guy, which I love, and now they have him all fancy, every hair in place, James Bond type of male, to sell cologne, which is so unlike him, many times he smells very down to earth.
He does not look "real" in this photo. Why do advertising agencies continue to do this. Do men really buy cologne because a celebrity gets paid to endorse it. Such a silly state of mind.
Famous Movie Locations: The Dam From 'The Fugitive' (Tapoco, North Carolina) {Moviefone Blog}
Sep 18th 2010 11:20PM I agree, who the heck cares, it was a very good movie, one that I have seen many times and never get bored with it.
And I went to see it totally convinced it would not be as good as the Fugitve TV Show with the late David Janssen, as Richard Kimble. I also liked the Canadian actor who played Gerard on the show.
So, I did NOT want to see Harrison Ford play Kimble, he already was good as Han Solo in the Star Wars Movies, as Ryan in the Tom Clancey movies, and my favorite of his roles in Raiders of the Lost Ark
And I hated Tommy Lee Jones up to that point, hated his work. But he really did steal the movie.
I had not read any revues nor seen the coming attractions. Because usually when they make a movie from a popular TV show, it is never as good.
The first 15 minutes were so so, then came the train wreck, leading
up to the dam scene. That was the BEST part of the whole movie.
Hotels Can Use New Database to Blacklist Guests {AOL Travel News}
Sep 13th 2010 2:33PM Having worked in a hotel in college, I can see where this might help the hotel or B & B. You would not believe the stuff people go off with. We had departing guests take the shower curtains, bedroom sliding door window drapes, bath robes, wooden clothes hangers.
Plus the usual, sheets, pillowcases, tv remotes, towels, bath mats, lightbulbs from the lamps, we even had one time the sink fixtures in the bathroom sink taken out.
And parties in the rooms, in particular after a Saturday night wedding, you would not believe how a suite or room can be trashed by a wedding party
Working in a 5 star hotel, I did not realize that upper crust guests could be so crass. Because the guests were rich,many times our General Manager would not bring charges
The only downside to this idea, from a guest standpoint is, mistakes can be made. You could get on this list by mistake and never get off.
SmackDown: Should a Kid Be Allowed to Scream at a Restaurant? {ParentDish}
Sep 10th 2010 6:16PM I wish had the nerve to tell off some of these parents. Don't blame the babies stuck in a baby chair or young tots sitting on one of those booster seats while their parents blab away for hours.
I don't care if the child is "mentally challenged". All children that scream, bang the table, throw food at other diners, run around the restaurant, should be banned.
Everybody in this country now thinks they have the right to take their kids anywhere. I have been in posh restaurants at 10pm at night and their is a young well dressed couple bringing in a 2 year old child.
Give ME a break. I wish their were restaurants that could say NO one under 12 allowed.
I support this woman, but I suppose she will now get sued.
2010 Golden Globe Nominations Are Out: Action and 'Up in the Air' Soar {Moviefone Blog}
Dec 15th 2009 8:15PM Years ago I loved watching the Golden Globes. This awards show was not as boring as the Oscars had become.
But the GG's sure seem "fixed" this year. Many of these actors or movies are NOT the most popular with the average movie attendee of my age.
NINE, come on now. This is a total ego fest for certain actors and directors.
Ad Rant: David Spade brings pal Chris Farley back from the dead to shill for Direct TV {WalletPop}
Oct 27th 2009 11:49AM Enough of relatives, heirs, managers, agents determined to make money off dead people.
Let the dead rest in peace. It has gotten so bad "selling of the dead" that people are going to have to write into their wills, please do not use me in any fashion after I am dead.
It is greed people, nothing more, of the people that inherited the rights to the estate, wanting to make more money off the dead!
