REPORT: President Obama to give states right to set own emissions/fuel economy standards {Autoblog}

Jan 26th 2009 7:25AM Yes. This must be the same ignorance that produced the election results.
CARB regulates Carbon Dioxide now sir. This is a de facto CAFE regime--and as the largest car markets in the country are adopting it...

Jan 26th 2009 7:17AM Oh please. These people only know good intentions. They aren't interested in results.
To cure cancer, you make it illegal to get sick. That is how they think. After all, why would you not want to outlaw illness? How cruel must you be? You must be part of the Big Pharmacy Lobby! You just want us to get sick and use pills all the time while the rich get richer and the poor get poorer!

Jan 26th 2009 7:14AM Oh Josh,
Soon you'll pay the price for "hope and change". I say pick up an economics textbook in the next four years and batten down the hatches.
The EPA will regulate CO2 next. This is the beginning of the end. You will *never* have the same standard of living ever again.

Jonathan Dearest, when--ever--has an "environmental" standard been reversed?

Jan 26th 2009 7:02AM zamafir,
That is *exactly* the point. Don't you get it at all? All the states *will* adopt California's standards, which classifies carbon dioxide as a pollutant. This is a de facto mileage standard--a tightening of CAFE if you will.

In other words it's a brilliant way to bypass Congress and hand the votes over to a state that is even more left of center than the populace at large--and there is nothing you or I can do about it.
Because if California will follow their beloved state Democrats into bankruptcy (Have they passed a budget yet? What's their deficit this year?), there ain't *nothing* else on God's green earth that will pry them away from their destructive mindlessness.

Jan 26th 2009 6:55AM Dan,
Give it up.
I have NEVER met a Leftist who understands economics. NEVER.

With Republicans it's iffy; but with anybody left of center it is hopeless. They don't get it and they never will.

This is a de facto MILEAGE standard. It has nothing to do with ULEV/ZULEV/LEVCrap. But then again as we said. Cause and effect are lost on people whose political ideology is not about results but about *intentions*.

Jan 26th 2009 6:44AM Boy,
It doesn't matter what Wyoming does. What matters is what California does. The most bankrupt state in the union is going to bankrupt us all.

It *is* the end of GM and Chrysler and *will* kick Ford out of California. Democracy has destroyed itself.

Jan 26th 2009 6:39AM Change we need?

It's the end of America. Period.

CARB is the de-facto national standard and will always be. There will be no "choice".

Aptera rolls out first pre-production vehicle, promises shipments in October {Engadget}

Jan 24th 2009 7:34PM Harkonian, what nonsense is that?
If "no one" wants to buy Ford and Chrysler vehicles, then how on earth do they rack up so much sales (to be the third and fourth largest companies in the US).

Are millions of people buying Fords at gunpoint? By force of law?
