Begging for Verizon Fios -- I want it. Joseph Ambeault, Joe Savage... call me now! {The Jason Calacanis Weblog}

May 23rd 2007 9:51PM You might try contacting City of Brentwood or Contra Costa County to determine who has cable franchising jurisdiction in your area. Back here in Loudoun County, VA, Verizon was running HSI and FTTP phone service while waiting for their television piece to get approval. You see, municipalities like to have the deep pockets companies install institutional networks gratis to the towns (to broadcast town council meetings and whatnot), offer free service to the municipality, and commit frequencies/channels to public, educational, government use (PEG in-kind) and even support public access. Levy franchise fees and the like.

One would have thought everyone would have made the jump to YouTube and (with much chagrin) Operator11...not so.

Open Source Advertising, user-created commercials (iMedia Summit Panel) {The Jason Calacanis Weblog}

Feb 5th 2007 2:54PM Chevrolet tried that with their Tahoe SUV, remember:

For the time being, unless your product is quirky or off-beat, corporations will keep the lid on the message being communicated in the more "mass" of mass media channels. No user-created content unless vetted to within an inch of myna-birding the CorpComm line, to a tee.

That Southwest ad, you could not create in today's locked-down DHS/TSA environment; the plane would be CGI against a blue/green screen.

I'm sure that pilot of that Sou'West 737 was happy he achieved rotation speed far enough back on the runway...that model would have been knocked on her butt...or worse.

Jan 23rd 2007 5:58PM $90 for a sekt? Yikes! The market they are going for is european bottle service to brain-dead trust-fund kiddies in Ibiza who do not know better...the price there will be $300/bottle.

Leggings for Men? {Luxist}

Jan 23rd 2007 5:32PM Karl-Heinz, you are beautiful and angular; and if you were a gas, you'd be inert.

Leggings are soooo Dieter.

Jan 17th 2007 3:47PM Build one. Or have one built for you.

Looks like a piece of food-grade marble with an insert cut in the middle for the grill/griddle (electric or gas)

If you are going for a Larry Ellison-esque, true Asian, low-seating experience, just build to that spec. As spartan/utilitarian or opulent as you see fit.

I'm sure your local yakiniku/bulgogi purveyor would be able to give you tips, if he could be guaranteed you'd still show up from time to time at his shop...

Better yet, invite him over for supper!

Autoblog on fire... {The Jason Calacanis Weblog}

Jan 8th 2007 5:02PM Adam:

Look at the ads on the site...the demographic is being served is the demographic being targeted by the links from AOL's properties, namely the occasional appearance on the Welcome Screen rotation...rather pedestrian Panasonic has bought placement for middle-of-the-road projection TV; a Sony headphones ad; create your own "Zwinky" Flash-driven paperdoll product (bizarre?); Marriot hotels.

Luxist is "material goods/aspiration look-at-how-JLo/Jay-Z lives pr0n"...Daimler is not going to spend anything for PPC or AdSense ducats on a Luxist placement.
