Caterpillar Mulls Relocating: How Do You Move a Bulldozer Company? {BloggingStocks}

Mar 28th 2011 10:59AM Let's hope that CAT moves from Illinois to Nevada. That is, instead of to China. I do not like the fact that the several states compete with each other for companies to move into (or remain in) their states. But the Federal Government should seriously consider reducing the corporate tax rate from 35% to a rate which can compete with low- or no-tax countries. (I believe Ireland has something like a 12.5% rate, while the Cayman Islands imposes virtually no income tax). Of course, companies can not repatriate earnings to the U.S. without paying the 35%, so they tend to keep their earnings overseas.

Video: Behind the scenes with Motus MTS-01 and MTS-R {Autoblog}

Mar 10th 2011 6:30PM Good power, likely very fast, ok styling. But, the key for me is price. If it comes in at $15K and up, forget about it. The idea of a compact V4 still seems to not have caught on with the automakers. It is inherently lighter than an in-line 4 cylinder engine and more compact (could be as small as 10" x 10" x 10" and weigh only 130 lbs), and would seem to be a no-brainer, but none of the major manufacturers have opted to go that way. Wonder why. Anyhow, bring on this new motorcycle--maybe Harley will finally graduate from the 1960's and get competitive.

Bank of America New Account Fees Could Add Slight Additional Upside {BloggingStocks}

Feb 28th 2011 11:48AM It is good that there are so many different banks/credit unions/savings and loans from which to choose. I use several banks, none of which charge a fee. If one should implement fees (as Chase recently did), I close the account immediately. The irony is that Chase gave me a bonus for opening a savings account just 6 months earlier (admittedly one that paid virtually no interest). Faced with paying $12 per month to maintain the account, it was an easy decision to say good-bye to Chase.

Blake's Takes: NASCAR's Fuel Injection? Well, It's a Start {Fanhouse Motorsports Blog}

Feb 25th 2011 9:24PM A good start, indeed. Now, if they would mandate a reduction in engine displacement to something on the order of 260 to 300 cubic inches, and allow the teams freedom to select transmissions, rear-end ratios, shocks, etc. to optimize performance, while insuring reliability/durability, coupled with removal of all those aerodynamic gee-haws to return to "stock" cars (albeit without glass lights, w/s wipers, etc.), they would be on to something.

Cell Phone Ratings: BlackBerry Bottoms Out; How Did iPhone Rate? {WalletPop}

Feb 22nd 2011 7:55AM I thought I would comment on how useless this article is, but it looks like others have said it all. One does not buy a cell phone to satisfy some desire to reward the manufacturer for its treatment of its workers or its effect on the environment. Rather, does the damn thing work, is it reliable, and is it simple to use.

Trevor Bayne Becomes Youngest Winner in Daytona 500 History {Fanhouse Motorsports Blog}

Feb 20th 2011 6:24PM Although I do not like the 2-car drafting, or restrictor racing in general, I am much pleased to see Trevor Bayne and the storied Wood Brothers #21 win. I would bet that the Silver Fox, David Pearson (my all-time favorite driver), was proud to see his old mount in the winner's circle once again. P.S.--too bad so many very good race-cars were knocked out early (Johnson, Gordon, et al) and late (Earnhardt, Jr. et al)

NASCAR Makes Another Small Rule Change for Daytona 500 {Fanhouse Motorsports Blog}

Feb 20th 2011 5:53AM No, Mikesells4U, you are not the only one who thinks that NASCAR is trying to micro-manage the race, to the detriment of the drivers & crews. I agree with you 100%--they should simply define the rules and let them race. The crew chiefs will find out very quickly how much grill opening is optimal to go fast while avoiding overheating.

Report: Marchionne admits Dodge Nitro "needs to be replaced" {Autoblog}

Feb 19th 2011 7:45PM So the head of Fiat/Chrysler intends to make a decision within the next 40 days or so regarding the replacement for the Nitro? Now, with a typical 2 to 3 years development time, it should come out in 2013 or 2014 and once again be several years behind the competition. Why don't we keep the Jeep Wrangler and the V-8 hemi engine in the U.S. and ship the rest of the carcass of Chrysler to Italy, where they can buy it in a landfill?

It's Tony Stewart Again at Daytona in Nationwide Photo Finish {Fanhouse Motorsports Blog}

Feb 19th 2011 7:33PM The race was, indeed, close, and there were many lead-changes, but I do not like racing where the results depend more upon hooking up with another car than the speed of the cars and ability of the drivers. Of course, it is the fault of the d--- restrictor plates and all the fancy aerodynamic gee-haws to control the air flow. Why will NASCAR simply reduce the engine displacement to something like 260 to 300 cubic inches and require stock-templated configurations (obviously not with head/tail-lights or windshield wipers), but shaped exactly like the ones we buy at the local dealership?

Dale Earnhardt Jr. Crashes in Practice, Will Start Daytona 500 in Back {Fanhouse Motorsports Blog}

Feb 19th 2011 11:37AM I don't like to see them wreck, especially in practice, when it seems so unnecessary to be running so close that something like this could happen. But, if Dale, Jr. "didn't feel right" about practicing, why was he out there? If he felt the car was sufficiently dialed in, he should have simply parked it, and saved the motor from unnecessary wear and tear. Of course, at Daytona, with the restrictor plates, it should not matter much over 500 miles. There will be countless opportunities to make up the ground, whether due to fuel stops or caution flags. Let's get on with the race and see what happens.
