Classic Cocktails Make a Comeback (with video) {Luxist}
Apr 18th 2010 9:12AM I have the highest respect of older bartenders - though if the condiments and drinks of the video are the ones used in the oak room, they would need urgently an overhaul:
Maraschino cherries are definitely no more up to date. The sidecar glass looked quite average with the lemon wedge on the rim.
And pointing out Goose and Ketel One Martinis seems also quite average.
Glassware overall also looks not really special - typical hotel-ware [Libbey?].
Only because a bar is a classic and got some accolades doesn't mean that it still plays with the top bars.
Cointreau Spherification - Tiny Pearls of Booze {Luxist}
Aug 16th 2009 8:46AM Nothing is as old as the news from yesterday.
This Cointreau experience was already created in 2008.
By the way - to make the caviar is nothing different as doing any other "fruit" caviar. Its typical marketing nonsense to sell this as unique!
I would bet that the spherification gel contains ["vegan"] alginate [the original developed product Texturas by Ferran Adria] - and the spherification medium consist a high concentration of calcium [called calcic].
Unfortunately it doesn't usually have the texture of caviar - but more likely as gummibears.
May be only selected bartenders were chosen, to ensure, that nobody pearls any other product with the "special cointreau spherification kit"!
1800 Tequila introduces Select Silver... and The Man Cave {Luxist}
Jul 31st 2009 12:50AM This is not correct! There is a brand called Revolucion Darfor which I bought actually around 7 years ago [and it is still available] which is a 100 proof blanco tequila - and it is also 100% de agave...
I actually made a review of its "smaller brother" 1800 Silver just recently over on my blog - www.opinionated-alchemist.com
Ludacris Debuts New Cognac In France {Luxist}
Jun 25th 2009 11:29PM Hm, for me it doesn't seem right. This is worse than the credit crunch...
Ludacris assisting the master blender, to create a "brandy & coke" cognac? This isn't real!
And why should anyone buy this?
Well, there is another comment: Cognac usually carries the designation: VS, VSOP or XO [these are the common ones] - not VO [Seagrams is no Cognac..].
And it is even not so difficult and expensive to make a XO [this is the highest AOC protected quality level]: the youngest eau de vie needs to be only 6 years old [VSOP 4 years; VS as lowest age certification and minimum age 3 years].
That means, that Ludacris even wants to sell us crap!
BMW launches new 2009 Cross Country Mountain Bike {Luxist}
May 30th 2009 3:27PM Given the price tag and the quite good configuration, roughly 13 kg are not too bad!
You can still tweak several 100g with tuning parts...
SKORPPIO Vodka (& Other Scorpion Goodies) {Luxist}
Feb 20th 2009 12:10AM Man - you were all faster than me...
Mezcal actually made it to an own category of mexican spirit.
In Tequila though it is prohibited to put anything like worms or other additives into the bottle [the distiller would loose his license] - maybe there would only be a hole in law, if you would refer to "flavored Tequila"; but this is just theoretically...
And yes, Scorpions are related to Spiders. They have 8 legs like spiders. Insects [bugs, grasshoppers, bees, flies etc.] have 6 legs...
The Dalmore 50 {Luxist}
Nov 5th 2008 5:00PM These ultra premium and ultra old whisky doesn't make sense anymore!
Also what does that mean, that one of the malts of the blend is first distilled 140 years ago???
If it is a malt, which is 140 years old [highly unlikely] it wouldn't be a vintage malt as stated!
Anyway premium makes perfectly sense - but 700 Pound Sterling for 10cl? Not really!
At least they were clever - not selling in an usual bottle size of 75cl [which would make a price of more than 5000 Pounds...
Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station (802.11n) Firmware 7.3.2 {TUAW.com}
Jul 7th 2008 9:44PM Unfortunately my time machine is not working that well!
I need minutes - sometimes almost half an hour to connect to the internet wireless...
Messages are password is incorrect or Connection timeout...
If I want to upgrade via Airport Utility, it doesn't find any newer upgrades... all links to manually download the firmware is leading to an Apple support site - but not to the actual download!
May be it doesn't work, as the internet in the U.A.E. is censored?
Time Capsule and AirPort Base Station (802.11n) Firmware 7.3.2 {TUAW.com}
Jul 4th 2008 10:41PM Actually I was so glad that the firmware was coming! But my problem is, that Software Update doesn't find the new firmware [neither airport utility is finding it] and if I want to download it manually, the link of the download button directs me to a new website of Apple Support (how to install the package) - But the package itself I can find nowhere... Can somebody help me?
The Rise of Molecular Mixology {Luxist}
Apr 22nd 2008 12:21AM Molecular Mixology is just the exception of bartending! It raised the last two years but it is already in descending - really trendy bartender are no more concentrating on this (except of Eben, who is very cool - but also different).
