Wayne Gretzky and The Osbornes Sell Their Goods For Good Causes {Luxist}

Oct 16th 2007 4:50PM Thank you for mentioning my post about celebrity estate sales. It's true these folks may not need the money but it's heartwarming to know they are donating the proceeds to worthy causes (after the auctioneers are paid off of course.)

The Daily Turn On! What your home says about you {That's Fit}

Sep 3rd 2007 12:15PM Laura,

What a great article!

You can certainly hunt down a professional organizer and they can do it with you, but make sure you get a general education about how to hire one. It's true that everyone can use one, but not everyone can afford one, or actually NEED one.

What do Professional Organizers do?

Establish a budget.

Discuss ideas/goals.

Act as your advisor and expert.

Work with you to sift through your junk, treasures and clutter, figuering out what you need, don't need.

Process all the decisions. Labor-speaking. This part of the job can be momumental and time-consuming.

They may recommend handyman, antique dealers, auction houses (eBay), personal assistants, designers, movers, computer consultants to get your to-do list under control.

They can coordinate the vendor's work, or simply refer them to you.

Other important things about hiring someone?

Make sure you trust the person, after all, they're in your home and office, sifting through personal papers, bills, invoices, tax statements, and investment documents. Get a referral from a friend if you can.

Yes, NAPO can help-- and will. Go to their website.

A Professional Organizer may totally look like a a luxurious treat, but I believe their contacts and expertise may actually save you money in the long term.
