Dec 17th 2011 1:53AM We imagined how boring and troublesome it would be living in a Stepford Community and decided to pass. The neighborhood we chose has a Neighborhood Watch group that has two sub-committees....one that plans a summer block party and one that organizes a beautiful Christmas luminaria. Other than that, it's an unwritten courtesy that trash be placed out as close to sundown or beyond as possible....and that's just common respect since it's not picked up til 2AM anyway.

Nov 29th 2011 4:20PM Most people associate travel with a glamorous life.....and who travels more than pilots and flight attendants. But theirs is not a glamorous life in the least. Since when does pushing a beverage cart up and down the narrow aisle, bumping into elbows and fat butts, yelling to be heard over conversations or being yelled at because someone was missed while he napped, etc, etc., etc., equate to anything more than a glorified server? Sure, you're responsible for people's lives but so are firemen and teachers....it sure doesn't increase the glamour quotient.
It's a job, plain and simple but the hours suck along with the pay, at least for longer than one should expect.

Nov 23rd 2011 6:44PM I saw a huge man board the plane just as I got comfotable in my mid row seat. I said to myself 'this man is coming for this aisle seat' and prayed I was wrong. I wasn't. He reached down and raised the armrest, as if it was second nature, then slowly wriggled himself into the seat. He spilled over into my space and never said one word thereafter, as though the situation was mine to accept since there was no other option. To make matters worse, his body odor and continual grunting made the trip unbearable. A half hour into the flight I got up and went to the back of the plane to complain to the flight attendant. She told me there was nothing she could do about it, he paid for his seat just as I did and for me to return to my seat. I said 'so I'm supposed to be inconvenienced for 4 hours and this man shouldn't be? Why should I have to give up 1/3 of my space for his benefit?'
I got the same response, with the addition of 'why make a mountain out of a mole hill'. I bent down and whispered in her face, "I'm sure if it was your father in my seat you'd have a different attitude".
This should NOT have been MY problem. It should have been the airline's and this man's concern BEFORE he boarded the plane.
