Apr 19th 2007 5:25PM No matter how much money I ever acquire I would never put stenciled images of myself, my nickname at the bottom of my pool, hang a painted portrait, or adorn the floor with my initials. And above all, spider-man needs to go. But I still think Wade is the best.
Mar 29th 2006 8:51PM "Monument to Pro-Life, the Birth of Sean Preston" by Daniel Edwards is purely self promotional, and not art. Art is something designed to provoke thought and emotions in people, good and bad. We can all agree that this sculpture evokes emotion and thought, but Mr. Edwards intention is that we have the same thought, "pro-life is good, pro-choice is bad", and emotion (caring for the baby Sean Preston and abhoring the idea of abortion). To me, this is not art. At the very most, it is very bad art.
Like all bad art, its purpose is too contrived. Also, he seemed to miss the message he was supposed to deliver...that pro-life is the way to be. When you look at Britney Spears having a baby you think, "Damn. That is nasty. To think we were one abortion away from having to view this horrible piece of garbage.
A side note: You know, its a funny thing. I am for pro-choice myself, even though I could never see myself happy with the decision of having an abortion if I had to make it. (Lucky for me I'm a man!) If I was a woman though, I would probably choose to have the baby. The exception would be if it was a product of rape or incest because the child would alway remind me of that incident. I'd be OK in South Dakota, because their law catered to my particular psychological issue.
The South Dakota law protects choice under the psychological circumstance of being impregnated with an incestous or rape baby because they recognize that the baby would function as a reminder of the rape or incest, and this reminder could lead to poor parenting.
But what if you just knew that you will be a horrible mother that will not care for their child, will abuse their child, and would end up sponging off of society in order to support their child? What law exists in South Dakota that protects your right to choose? I mean, if the law is designed to protect children from growing up in a poor environment, then what about a guarantee like a mother telling you, "I cannot care for this baby,"?
In Daniel Edwards defense I will say that the bear skin rug and the fact that Britney is on her knees is a nice touch.
