Apartment Guru: The Dirty Broker {Rented Spaces}

Mar 23rd 2010 4:50AM hey steve-o, sexual harassment is illegal in ALL of the 50 states. If what she experienced was a one time crude comment of a sexual nature she won't be able to find a lawyer to take the case. If this creep grabbed her butt, cornered her in the apartment and made her take off her shirt before he let her leave the room she would have a better case. However... that being said, the whole case would come down to "he said, she said" type of scenario. She could file suit herself as a pro se plaintiff but even then she has a weak case because: 1. does she have corroborating evidence; and 2. what are her damages? Finally, sexual harassment scenarios typically arise from a workplace situation, however, that doesn't prevent this woman from filing a police report and trying to get the prosecutor's office to prosecute him. Even then, the prosecutor's office may not want press charges unless they feel there is enough evidence to support the woman's claim, i.e., bruises, bite marks, torn clothing, eye witness who sees her flee the scene, blah, blah, blah. the law isn't as cut and dry as many people think...

Post Your Face: 'When I Lost 35 lbs, My Nose Mysteriously Grew!' {Stylelist}

Mar 10th 2010 8:43PM You've got to be kidding me? Please somebody tell me this Dr. didn't actually fall for this. If you compare the two pictures, you will quickly see they are exactly the same... the only thing that has changed is her nose. Want proof? Look at the strands of her hair, and the reflections and shadows, everything is exactly the same. If Dr. Freund didn't pick up on that, I certainly wouldn't want him operating on me - jeez.

Maine Retreat, Estate of the Day {Luxist}

Sep 6th 2007 4:13AM This house is a monstrocity - it's the Super WalMart version of McMansions. A double wide trailer on steroids. Let's face facts, these people have absolutely NO STYLE. The materials are sub-standard, the planning is poor, the aesthetics are overwhelmingly appalling and the asking price is wholly ridiculous. Turn this thing into a treatment facility for drug abusers -- they're sure to go straight if forced to stay in this ugly house. The house could be appealing if all the ugly pine were removed, the bathroom closed off into it's own room, outdoor furniture removed OUTSIDE, the list goes on and on. The seller's will be lucky to get 500,000.00 (that's for the land). I wouldn't pay a dime for this design nightmare.

Microsoft blames baby's parents for deadly Xbox fire {Engadget}

Aug 2nd 2007 1:25AM Since everyone else here is making assumptions, I'll throw one out that no one has mentioned.

Why did they wait so long to sue?

The plaintiffs (the dead baby's parents) probably tried to settle the case before it was filed in court. I suspect they went to arbitration and won. Microsoft, like all other defendants, who go to a non-binding arbitration have a right to appeal an unfavorable decision. If that happened maybe that is why the plaintiffs filed suit when they did. Perhaps they TRIED to settle with Microsoft but Microsoft's pig-headeness and concern to protect it's "good name" prevented them from stepping up to the plate and taking responsibility.

I work in a law office. I see this crap all the time. Big corporations spending hundreds of thousands of dollars (of their shareholder's money nonetheless), drag a case on and on for years, get to court and lose. Microsoft is potentially headed down that same road. However, if they get scared the night before trial (and even during the trial) they can offer to settle. And guess what, that settlement will be CONFIDENTIAL and none of us will know the outcome.

Why do so many people concern themselves with the welfare of the billion dollar corporation and condemn the people who bring the lawsuit? Especially when you don't know ANY of the pertinent facts? You have no idea what went wrong here. You do not know the family. You do not know why the fire started or whether it was an actual design defect. Oh no, you don't want to rely on facts... you just jump the gun and assume the plaintiffs are seeking to strike it rich. I hardly doubt it. You lose a baby of yours to Bill Gates' design defect, will you be so forgiving to the giant corporation?

Oh and the little old lady that won the millionaire dollar verdict after being burned by scolding hot coffee at McDonalds had 3rd degree burns on her private parts and had to undergo numerous skin grafts. I think she was fairly compensated. She wasn't the gold digger or opportunist the newspapers made her out to be. If you burned your privates with 400 degree coffee you'd be looking for a lawyer too.

As for the ambulance chasers calling looking for business. That is unethical and is not allowed in hawaii. i would be very suprised if that was allowed anywhere. In fact, an attorney could be disbarred for those tactics if caught.
