Income Tax Cocktail {Slashfood}

Apr 19th 2006 2:31AM Tax time is among the most slow time in Las Vegas. The high end customers that Las Vegas craves are usually the ones who have to write a check on April 15 (or 17'th in the case of 2006), so they need their cash to pay the IRS.

Maybe Las Vegas should promote "tax day" as "tourism day" ... letting people know they can come enjoy all the cocktails they want ... along with cheaper rooms (around tax day)!

Trophy Towers Condo Project In Las Vegas {Luxist}

Mar 11th 2006 11:04PM Everyone is lauding this as a done deal, and the speedway owners certainly have the cash to make it happen. No doubt it will sell well and sell out as similar raceway projects in other parts of the country have.

Everyone keeps overlooking that the proximity to Nellis Air Force Base and the original speedway zoning agreement of no residential are going to be tough to deal with. You can buy off (er, donate to the political campaigns) of local officials who may have influence on zoning changes.

But the military holds a tough line on encroachment. A Turnberry project in Destin, Florida was only allowed to go through once they significantly reduced the height of the building to meet local base concerns. While bases are being closed in other parts of the country, Nellis is noted as vital to the mission of the military.

Will be an interesting one to watch.
