Aug 30th 2009 4:51PM Okay ...in addition to my comment earlier ... when are they going to BAN alcohol or BAN cigarettes or the SUN outside ... the government has a he!! of a lot more going on today then a tanning unit I go into 6 or 10 minutes twice a week ... WHERE ARE THE FACTS OF THIS NOT COMING FROM THE SUN.... so just as booze and cigarettes, print the warnings and let the educated consumer do what they think is good bad or otherwise .... stop letting the government run our lives. Oh wait, maybe because they aren't getting enough tax dollars out of the tanning spas like they do with liquor stores and cigarettes ....uhhhhhhhhhh!

Aug 30th 2009 4:37PM I am very sorry for the folks who had to get that awful phone call or the terrible news of the "C" word for themselves or family members. No thank you! However I've been a tanner a good many years, at the age of 16 I burned terribly on a very cloudy day in Florida. I never put SPF on because of the day being so cloudy ... I received a good amount of blisters and was laid up in bed several days with medicine to ease the healing. Now again at the age of 18 I get burnt at a friends pool while laying out trying to get as much sun as would come through; a partly sunny day but certainly not the same
weather of Florida. I was sore for approximately 2-3 days but nothing too bad.
Now today some 25 years later alll I do are tanning beds, I go between 6 to 12 minute twice a week or less. I never lay out anymore, I simply don't have the time but that's not to say if I were to get cancer I would blame the tanning beds ... HOW IGNORANT of any person to think a tanning bed is the sole reason of melanoma. I go to friends pool parties, I garden, I vacation, I bike ride, I play volleyball, I walk, I attend fests all day ....point is, I'm outside a whole bunch ....what are these people doing the other 23 hours and 45 minutes of their life that they are blaming it solely on a tanning unit? Do they live in a bubble the remaining part of their day?
I'm not buying the whole tanning bed thing. If you're a tanner you're going to get it inside or outside ...wherever you can get it. This needs more research and I'm waiting for the RIGHT person to do it so I too can be more educated as well. Right now I am simply NOT convinced.
