For Guys: Valentine's Day Lingerie Guide {Shopping Articles Blog}

Feb 3rd 2012 12:38PM Two general guidelines to keep in mind, fellas:
1) If you want her to consider actually wearing it, go for classy, not cheesy. Most women really don't want to dress like a hooker, even in private.
2) Women rarely get turned on when they are physically uncomfortable. If it's lace, feel it first to make sure that it's not scratchy, and avoid 'butt floss' or elastic or straps so tight that they will leave grooves in the skin. Flowy silk is much more likely to get your lady in the mood.

Landlady's 'White Only' Sign Still Not OK, Commission Says {AOL Real Estate}

Jan 13th 2012 2:23PM It never fails to amaze me how people can say and do the most blatantly racist things and then go on to claim, 'I'm not racist.' If an action like this isn't racist, then what is? People like this woman make me feel embarrassed to be white.

Video: Kayaker has rare encounter with a blue whale {Gadling}

Oct 19th 2011 7:19PM Extraordinary. Very, very few humans have ever seen a live blue whale. I would be ready to call it a life after an encounter like this.

Pippa Gaining Ground on Top Baby Name List in 2011 {ParentDish}

Jul 28th 2011 8:52AM Everybody seems to be forgetting their high school English classes - or else our high schools aren't teaching Robert Browning anymore. This ought to be the first thing you associate with the name Pippa:

The year's at the spring,
And day's at the morn;
Morning's at seven;
The hill-side's dew-pearled;
The lark's on the wing;
The snail's on the thorn;
God's in his Heaven—
All's right with the world!

- Song from 'Pippa Passes"

Pippa Gaining Ground on Top Baby Name List in 2011 {ParentDish}

Jul 27th 2011 2:34PM My guess is that the upsurge in interest in the name Luna has less to do with the Beckhams than it does with the quirky heroine who comes into her own in the last three volumes of the Harry Potter saga, Luna Lovegood. If you look at these trends more closely I'll bet that you'll see names that are unusual in America like Hermione and Neville also moving their way up the ranks of popularity, on account of the Potter cultural phenomenon.

Wanna Name Your Baby Lucifer? New Zealand Says Hell, No {ParentDish}

Jul 18th 2011 3:56PM Lucifer is a beautiful name. It means 'light-bringer.' And not everyone believes in 'the Devil.' Why should the Judeo-Christian canon trump all other belief systems? This sort of thing is the beginning of the slippery slope that you get when a government doesn't stick to the principle of separation of church and state.

Mom's Spanking Fuels Toddler's Aggression {ParentDish}

Jul 12th 2011 8:19AM If taking a stand against perpetuating the cycle of child abuse that goes on generation after generation in so many famililes makes me a 'wimp,' then so be it - I am proud to a 'wimp'! My father would have rationalized his own beatings of his children (his only parenting strategy) the same way I see so many respondents here rationalizing their own: as 'needed discipline.'

Mom's Spanking Fuels Toddler's Aggression {ParentDish}

Jul 11th 2011 3:18PM How can anyone rationalize an adult hitting a toddler, under ANY circumstances? The 'I got spanked as a child and I survived' argument cuts no ice with me. I got spanked and intimidated by a parent too, back in the days when nobody questioned that approach and no one had any clue what 'parenting skills' meant. I spent years of my time and thousands of dollars on therapy as a result. To this day I'm still afraid to go after what I want in life, because I was taught from way too early an age to go belly-up when the big dog comes around, if you want to survive. That is no way to raise a kid.

But the abuse stops with me. My son has never been spanked or hit, and he is growing up a great, kind, warmhearted, easygoing, pleasant and cooperative human being.

Bullies Grow up to be Abusive Husbands and Boyfriends, Study Finds {ParentDish}

Jun 10th 2011 11:46AM They really needed a study to figure this one out? Sounds like a no-brainer to me. But I guess having the statistics to cite might be helpful toward getting anti-bullying programs funded in these tough economic times for school districts.

The guys I would be the most scared to date would be the ones who say, 'They shouldn't make such a big deal out of bullying - it's just a normal rite of passage, and it builds character. I mean, look at me! I got bullied and I bullied other kids, and I survived.' Can you say 'great big red flag,' ladies?

Canadian Catholic School Bans Rainbows at Anti-Homophobia Event {ParentDish}

Jun 8th 2011 7:14PM Excellent point, Richard, and one not made often enough. There is no homosexual activity that is not also practiced by millions of straight couples, often within the context of religiously sanctioned marriage.

And Steve, sorry to burst your bubble, but homosexuality got taken off the official list of mental illnesses by psychiatric practitioners a while back. It is, however, still widely believed in the mental health field that the people with the most virulent hatred for gays are frequently closet cases who don't want to face up to their own homosexual leanings.
