When some black comics -- including greats such as Eddie Murphy and Dave Chappelle -- imitate white guys, there's a certain nerdy voice they use.
It doesn't really sound like most white guys, but it's a funny interpretation of a certain clipped-voice, uptight, archetype.
Last week in Madison, Wis., Barack Obama employed that white-guy voice, at least according to the New York Times.
Writes David Carr, quoting Obama:
"There's one right there, an 'Obamican,' that's what we call them. They whisper to me, they say, 'Barack, I'm a Republican, but I support you,' he said in an exaggerated white-guy cadence. "And I say, 'Thank you,' again using the comic stage whisper.
Carr opined that Obama was "doing whitespeak ala Dave Chappelle."
Having watched the video, I wouldn't say Obama is doing the "white guy" voice favored by comics. It's more of a comedic, sotto voce kind of deal. He's imitating a guy -- maybe a white guy, as there are a few white guys that are Republicans --who's a bit sheepish about coming out of the Republican closet. It's funny stuff.
But I know this: If Hillary Clinton (who has been known to "Southern it up" in speeches) even tried to sound like a black woman with some kind of an accent, she'd be pilloried for it. And if John McCain did a "black guy" voice, Mike Huckabee would become the instant front-runner for the Republican nomination.
Could you imagine if John (Mac Daddy) McCain started talking in "ebonics" or "hip-hop?" BOY! What a controversy that would be!!!
AND...Don't forget that B A L A C K OBAMA does NOT ackknowlege the AMERICAN FLAG!!! He refuses to put his hand on his heart...And, you want to elect him PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES?!?!?!?
HE'S ANTI-AMERICAN! WAKE UP AMERICA!!!
