Time to Ban the Burqa? French Minister Says Yes {Politics Daily}

Aug 20th 2009 10:16PM In France, home to no less than 5 million North African origin people, the total number of people wearing the burkha is around 300, according to this piece.

By contrast, according to one recent survey, almost one third of immigrant women have at some point of their lives been discriminated against.

So one wonders - which is a bigger threat to the true emancipation and empowerment of women - a garment worn by a few hundred women at a time, or rampant, near institutionalized levels of discrimination against people simply on account of their ethnicity ?

If there is a bukha ban debate, then, where is the debate over France's unequal treatment of its minorities ? Could it be that the burkha ban is little more than a ploy by the French establishment to deflect attention away from the real problems faced by its minorities.

Airline Introduces In-Flight Showers {Switched}

Mar 27th 2008 8:37PM In defence of Bob Wong, I do not think his statement was racist or that he meant them to be offensive to Muslims at all. All he meant was that they may have to shower more frequently, that is all, in a non pejorative sense.

NHL PR Says No to Al Jazeera {Fanhouse NHL Blog}

Jun 5th 2007 11:56AM So much for freedom of expression and freedom of the press.

Al Jazeera gives most other TV channels a run for their money and is far superior to the US networks in terms of their international coverage.

To turn the argument around, how would Americans react if a news channel affiliated with FOX News ( a mouthpiece for the madness of the Bush administration ) were to be banned from covering sports event around the world ? Well they would talk of freedom of expression and freedom of the press ! Except they do not speak of it as long as the right to free expression of OTHER people is violated.

Al Jazeera Rules !
